Thursday Night and NFL football?

Man o man, Its my 5th day. I usually go out on Thursdays and get smashed. All of my buddies have been texting me to come out and watch football as if I need an excuse to throw back about 10 Vodka Sodas. I kindly declined the requests and got a lot of crap from all of them. I am usually the life of the party
and usually the ring leader. So i can expect it from them.

I came home from work but have the itch. I committed to working out with a friend at 5 am and have been met her there all week so far. I don't want to let her down like I have been doing the last few months so I think I am staying in. I am going to hold my commitment to her and most importantly myself but damn it this isn't easy!

You're right it isn't easy.

Stopping drinking is only the beginning, and as you are finding, that's when the hard work begins. I had to make some tough choices about people in my life, when I began recovery.

Keep focused on your goals and keep up the workouts!

Im pretty sure I am going to have to change who I am hanging out with. I do have a few good people that I can count on right now. I haven't talked to my father about it yet. He has been sober for 22 years now. He would be a pretty good guy to talk to but we don't have that relationship back.

Thanks Carol. That is petty funny, You are completely right. I may have watched the game but the next day I couldn't even tell you who played.

nice job. I would tell your friends straight up you want to quit and if they razz screw them find new friends. I had friends that razzed me a bit, but I came clean on how much I drink and listed the bad stuff I have done and they know better.

When I was an active drinker and also in early recovery
I lived in Washington D.C.

One crazy football mad city..:
Naturally...I missed all the bar/football ambience
then....I found an AA group of mostly singles.

We did go to bars...as a group...ordered pitchers
of cokes....ate burgers and cheered like the drinkers!

I did the same when I re located...you really can
do anything for fun....just take sober people along.
Maybe not yet...but it will be possible.

New life for me-new sober friends
It's an awesome adventure ...

It will get better for you. It isn't easy by any means. If your friends really care they will respect your choice on being sober. Everyone is different, I've found that sharing my experiences and self education has helped me in this journey. I can't educate myself enough. Don't get me wrong, I'm not obsessed with being educated about my disease but I've learned that knowledge is power. I was powerless when it came to my addiction. Talking to people who've been there and can relate has helped so much. Keep on going! You're headed in the right direction and with time and paitence it will get better!

well we made it another night. Thanks for all the support. Tomorrow will be another hard one. Every Friday Im usually so Hung that when I get off work Im drinking again by 4 pm. The first two cocktails go slow but the rest go down like water. I am usually out til 2 am. I cant count how many brawls I have been in. I usually don't start them but I am very happy to finish them. It's usually me breaking them up and then I get pushed or popped and then game on.
I cant believe how many close calls from being arrested I got out of. IN Oregon an assault charge if convicted is 3 to 5 years in Prison. You don't think about that when your in a stage 5 blackout. Lately I have been thinking about All the dumb S*** I have done. WOW!

Anyways the game plan is to stick with it. I thank all of you for the love!

We are inclined to call things by the wrong names. We call prosperity 'happiness', and adversity 'misery' even though adversity is the school of wisdom and often the way to eternal happiness. William Penn
