Day Two

I've tried sobriety before and failed. But ready to try again. Life has once again got outta control. I just need a place to sort things out again and not feel so alone. I'm married to a drinker who is also going to try, but I can't depend on him for my sobriety. That's why I'm here. Thanks. Maggs

Hello and welcome.

I wish you all the best on getting and staying sober. People here can offer you a lot of help. Take things slow. I also suggest seeing a doctor and getting a physical so s/he can tell you what is the best way to help your body physically through the withdrawal.

Take care and keep posting.

I don't usually have any problems physically with withdrawal, none that can't be managed. It's more the emotional side of it; the restlessness, the dwindling reserve once I'm over the guilt, etc. But thank you. I've been down this road before, and I know it's not easy, but it is attainable with support on and off line. I just keep repeating, one day, one day...
I just want to click my heels and skip the first few weeks. I think my major dilemna is I'm a liquor representative; it's my job. Quitting is not an option financially. But I don't know if I can work with it constantly and not get tempted again. It takes a whole new
mindset. You know?

Thanks again.

I did that also. Its a good step. I also eventually dwindled down my stemware as I was a big time wine drinker. I left a couple of glasses for the inlaws when they visit, but that's it. They haven't visited since I gave it up in May. I am very glad because it would have been terribly hard in the beginning to see them have a glass of wine, but not as much right now.

Are you planning on what to do when those cravings hit? Since you are clear headed and sober it might be a good time to write down your feelings about being sober versus not. Just some ideas.

Try fruit juices Maggs. You can mix them with 7 up or what not, but the sugar in the juice may help. You've done it before and you know. Sorry - just tell me to shut up! Glad you've joined SR. PM me anytime you need or want to.

Please, don't shut up. lol. That's why I'm here.
I'm not much into sugary drinks, drank booze straight. Though I know it contained sugar, it wasn't the sweetness, it was the fire that i craved. Not today.

So glad you are here. You are right.... you can't depend on him for your sobriety. You have to find the reasons to stay sober within yourself and then you have to find the strength in your higher power to stay that way. Keep posting and let us know how you are doing. One promise i CAN make is that if you continue to stay sober it WILL get better.

I think my biggest issue right now is my job. Liquor liquor everywhere and not a drop to drink. I'm the assistant manager though. Manager is taking the week off starting tomorrow, and I wish I could have some time to not have to face my demons so soon. But I will. I have to.
Thanks everyone. It's hard to promote something that is slowly killing you
personally.
