Often times those around us or our circumstances lead to our path of drinking. Sometimes a certain person will be an enabler or a drinking buddy. This can lead to difficult choices, the bottle or a friend. There are other things to do without drinking that are enjoyable. Those that cannot recognize that, I simply will have to choose not to associate with during those times.
It is not easy telling someone you do not want to hang around them as much, if at all, any more because all of your social activities are centered around drinking.
