Thumbs up Doctor appointment UPDATE

I couldn't take the waiting anymore, so I called my doctor's secretary to ask her HOW I would know if there were a problem with my tests, since my doctor is out of the country until my scheduled appointment Sept. 17th. I wanted to know if the tests had even been done yet (liver blood-work).

She said that she couldn't tell me any of the results...BUT....if there's a problem, the test is flagged red in the computer...and my test is NOT flagged at all!!!

BEYOND relieved!!! And also completely shocked how this could be. How could I have drank THAT much and not had any problems with my liver?!

As always...good news has me on my toes....I know that this is a dangerous turning point for me and I'm keeping aware of any wayward thoughts towards drinking.

Good news!!!!

Celebrate, and count your blessings... but don't find a way to turn this GOOD THING into a negative. Treat yourself to a nice meal, a movie, a shopping trip, a massage... whatever special "treat" would make you happy and proud of yourself. Stay healthy.

That makes two of us on the "wow, my liver is OK???" I'm 38 years old and I don't have one thing wrong with me. I've seen a lot of girls in the 20's who have health issues due to using. I consider myself INCREDIBLY lucky!!!!!!

Congrats on your good news!!!!

i'm not so lucky. i'm 34 and have advanced cirrhosis and hep C but more dangerously, oesophagal varices. this basically means that if i drink for more than a day or so, i end up vomiting and passing blood and requiring several blood transfusions. just wanted to pop that in for those who have so far been lucky and think that they may be able to continue. i was completely fine physically/physiologically 1 year ago.

good one dancinggirl :bounce just stay like that

I haven't even thought of all that. I guess I should be tested, too. I've been drinking, except for a few periods of sobriety, for almost 30 years. I am on day 5 and still feel SO tired. I'm drinking V8 juice and trying to drink lots of water, hoping that will help detox me. The one good thing about being so tired though is that I'm sleeping really well at night even though every time I've quit before insomnia has been terrible. I'm so sorry you relapsed! Hang in there and start over. Even if your liver is fine, who wants to feel sick all the time like we do when we're drinking? Even tired, I have felt so much better than I did when I was constantly hungover or drunk. Hope is great medicine!

Hmm..
My liver functions were in the acceptable range.

I did have a episode with oesophagal varices....
i came very close to bleeding to death.
At the ER..they said 5 more minutes ..I would have.
That scared me for 3 months ...then I drank again.

What concerned me the ,most?

My brain . I knew it was slipping away.
Depression...Attempts at suicide...Stays in mental hospitals
Losing my comprehension skills. Short term memory loss.

....Once I finally quit...it all worked out.

Soo...please don't anyone think ...because your
liver is still doing well you can drink safely again.

Thank you to everyone for their good wishes....and thank you even more to the people who have given me a reality check on the dangers of thinking I'm "ok" now to drink!!!

ftumsh: wow! one year ago you were ok and then all that happened?! talk about a reality check for me!!! It really can just hit us all of a sudden, can't it?!

when i said i was ok a year ago..... it didn't actually mean ok. i was often sick and bloated, etc, i guess like any very heavy drinker is. it's just that the varices and resultant bleeding swerved the seriousness up a notch.

i was told quite early last year that "livers don't grow on trees" and most hospitals would consider everybody else before me for a transplant. my last "episode" was 2 weeks ago and that if i continue to do this, i will not see 2009. it really IS a reality check.
