Made it through today..

..day 8 and we had some friends over for a bbq. Everyone was drinking and aware I wasn't. No-one tried to suggest I should, or made me feel uncomfortable. I felt uncomfortable for a while as it is a completely new experience - 'wobbled' once but went into the kitchen for a cry on my husband; came out again and just got stuck into the juices!!

very proud of myself.

I think I can maybe do this!!

sas xx

Fantastic! I had a Pina Colada today myself - without the alcohol. It was refreshing...

It is great that you had a great day. Glad you made it. Be carefull on putting yourself in those situations with alcohol.
In AA it is said that if you go to the barbershop often enough eventually you will get a haircut.

Way to go. I am on Day 2 again, quit for 5 years before. I am already thinking of all the social things we have coming up and reminding myself how great I will feel not drinking.

Fantastic post!!! Isn't it wonderful when you not only face a hurdle but SURPASS all expectations and excel?! You did wonderfully! And heck, if we can't lean on people and cry once in awhile, what the heck good are people?! lol

I'm so lucky to not have a lot of people in my life that drink anymore. This post reminded me to be grateful for that and I Love the saying, if you go to the barber enough times, you'll get a haircut. That's a riot and very true.

Sadmummy - What a wonderful victory. Treasur these "I can do this" moments. Keep it close to your heart and call on it when you need it again. Be very proud of yourself!!

Great job enduring that social environment. I went to a wedding last night. I didn't come close to caving but I had two moments that I could think of where I thought I wanted some wine or whatever(open bar all night, alcoholics dream). I stuck with my kids and thought about having a hangover tomorrow for Monday morning work and said, "Not a chance!" I patted myself on the back driving on the way home sober, clear headed, feeling good, excited about going to bed knowing that I would wake up refreshed which I am right now! I'm PUMPED BABY!

Congrats sadmummy, that is awesome. Rurdy, I love pina coladas, drank them across America when I visited there. Might have to google that recipe! Non alcoholic of course.

Great job ;-) I'm new to this going out & not drinking thing myself. I'm sure you can always have some ginger ale or orange juice without the toxic mix. I'm going to be in a similar situation tomorrow & hope to have a similar success story to tell.

Keep up the success stories, we love hearing them.
