Trying Again
Trying Again
I'm trying again. That's all I have to say for now but I needed to say it to someone other than my cat. I live alone so it's easy to be a closet drunk (did I say easy?).
Anyway, I was sober yesterday and I'm sober today so I can hope!!!!

You sure can! As long as you keep trying, never give up or give in. I've been trying since last December to quit and only now have I reached a record (for me! )36 days!
Keep trying! Give it your all!! I know you can do this. If I can make it this far and feel hopeful for the future, than so can anyone!

Hello,
Today I just hit my 4 week mark (28 days!). While that may seem an eternity to you, it's not. Just keep busy. For me, I've taken more walks in the last four weeks (not past the 7-11 though) than in the past 4 years. Try not to dwell on "not drinking", as thinking about not doing something can take as much energy as doing it. If you can, try to find new rhythms in life. For me, the first week was the worst as my body re-adjusted to not having alcohol numb it down. I had headaches and couldn't sleep well. But now I can dream again (both literally and figuratively)!!
You can do it, just keep looking to a brighter and better future.
Good luck and health to you.

I too lived alone when I was a drinker
and stayed that way in recovery.
I found an AA meeting with lots of other singles
we had the same lifestyles and goals. We also had
a large social life ....helped me immensley.
Good to see you are sober again...

Welcome spudida,
It has taken me several tries too. I started last year about this time and tried to quit at least 3 times. I'm currently on day 10 and feeling good. The first few days were definitely the hardest but it has seemed to get easier each day.
Hang in there! And try, try again!

I'm glad you are here. Living alone is a tough call. There is no one there to help you through this. If I were you I'd stay on this site from 5pm to bedtime every day with several bottles of water and snacks next to you. Find friends, get instant messenger addresses and have a remote support group to help you make it through that critical time of the night. On weekends there is less traffic, so I'd make plans at least this upcoming weekend to go to a friends or families house where drinking doesn't occur. Treat this as you would any other serious event that requires planning, planning, planning.

Fantastic...!
What kinds of changes are you making? Meetings? Steps?
Beginning day 5 - my victory yesterday was getting a special bottle of wine from my boss (left on my desk) and throwing it away in the first trash can outside the office...I knew that thing could not come home with me and I wasn't ready to declare myself at the office. I don't know when I will be, but for now this is the place I can talk about my alcoholism. Thanks for all your support!
A lot of us don't mix our personal struggle with our professional life. Do you know how amazing that is to be able to take that bottle and chuck it on your 4th day sober? Honestly, I really don't know that I could win over a challenge like that and I'm on 31 days.
You rock Spudida - What a great victory.
