Feeling worthless and sad rebutal

Yesterday I made these lists and today I am going to look at the positive side of each situation.

I quit my job because:

1. I have a bachelors degree, graduated with honors, yet no benefits

No one can take away my bachelors degree or the honors that came with it.

2. I am not well and a full day work wipes me out.

I am lucky to be able to stay at home in this case.

3. Wanted time to work out more

Now I can.

4. Wanted more time with my family

Now I have it.

5. Looking for a clerical telecommuter job, I know they are out there but I cant find them.

I will find one in Gods time.

6. Many days I only have 4-5 hours that I feel well enough to accomplish all I need to.

Without a full time job I can accomplish this.

Sad for selfish resons:

1. My youngest just started High School. She is 14 and already has the boys flocking around. She's 5'10 and as pretty as can be.

2 1/2 years ago she was in the hospital with anorexia 3 months. She is healthy now and able to attend school as well as made the basketball team.

2. My oldest just had a baby - they live in Florida and I wont be able to see him again until Christmas.

Christmas is only 4 1/2 months away

3. None of my 4 teens living at home seem to need me very much anymore. That really makes me sad.

This way I get more peace and quite. BTW each of them needed me yesterday.

4. I want to have energy from sunrise to sunset, and thats not happening.

I will do what I can.

5. I am sad because when all the kids are gone, what will I do, what will my husband and I have in common.

I will think more positive thought

My 15 year old son just came home during his free hour to see how I am doing. How sweet is that.
How can I feel worthless when I've raised such awesome kids

I cant believe this.
My daughter stopped by home while walking to lunch with her friend ( the high school is a stones throw from the house). She came to get a hoody because it's cold today.
What made me so happy was she brought me up a glass of ice water ( I always have it wherever I go). Such a simple thing, but what I always need to remember is that the simple things are hugely important to me.

Today I feel loved

The lord is really showing me today how lucky I am

To think that yesterday I was so darn negative. Ruined my day.

Now today is bright and cheerful, even though I'm feeling poorly and it is raning outside, I am feeling chipper.

Thanks to all of you for helping me to see that there was a positive side to all of these things.

I really enjoyed reading your list, TooMutch. I have always fallen victim to my own pity parties, and never even thought of doing a list like that. I just knew that I needed to stop the pity parties. What a wonderful idea! Breaking it down into smaller pieces, and seeing the "positive side" of each thing that hurts you, is a gift from Above to you, and then, you shared it with us!

He works in mysterious ways!
Thank you again! I'm going to make my list right now, and put it in my bag to carry with me.

That was an awesome post TooMuch! Kids...they will always be our babies!

I'll practice some dictation right now for you, TM. This is in reference to "marriage", but I think it is very important for us "parents" too.

This is what I read in my "daily meditation" book for yesterday, Aug. 14th.

**********************************************

Deceive not thyself by overexpecting happiness in the married estate. Remember the nightingales which sing only some months in the spring, but commonly are silent when they have hatched thier eggs. --Thomas Fuller

Many people would say that marriage is a major factor in determining self-esteem. Those who are not married often feel that thier state of singleness causes thier unhappiness. Those who are married often blame thier less-than-ideal marriage for thier less-than-idea lives. Both are mistaken.

Contented self-acceptance doesn't depend on being either married or single, but whether we are happily married or happily single. To place too much importance on marital status misses the point. Our self-esteem is contingent on our own ability to be happy, whether we live alone or have a partner. There are just too many single people with grand self-esteem and too many married people in desperate trouble (and vice versa) ever to doubt that this is so.

Single or not, married or not, we can be a whole lot happier if we take responsibility for our own fulfillment. A partner can only add or detract from what we already have. If we know how to be happy with ourselves, we WILL be happy. If we don't, then changing our marital status isn't going to help us.

My self-esteem depends more on me than it does on any partner.

Hono - Falling victim to self pity is easy to do. List making works for me, I have a busy mind, so my thoughtss get in the way. But when I break things down like this it helps me.

Steamvess - that is awesome to be able to think things through like you do. Have fun working out and I hope you will find employment soon.

Log Cabin - I enjoyed the reading from your meditation book. Thank you. Would you mind sharing the name of the book with me?

I read two everyday for the same date. It is my 15 minutes of meditation of positive recovery.

Book one for Self-Esteem related topics:
Larsen and Hegarty - Believing In Myself (1991)

Book two for Women in Recovery related topics:
Karen Casey - Each Day a New Beginning (1982-1991)
