I have so much respect for you that you came here, posted about it and were willing to listen and consider something else. That is HUGE!!
And just think of how you will feel if you do make it through the weekend? The first weekend I spent sober was incredibly empowering. we will be thinking about you and look forward to seeing you Monday!! :ghug3

Cool Who says you have to??

No one says you have to drink - one thing I learned in AA is yes, it is hard not to drink, and yes, you need to make meetings, find a sponsor and work the steps.

I also learned that I had to change my playgrounds, most friends, and my entertainment. At first - I thought this would really suck. But when I could finally start thinking clearly, AND remebering what I did the night before - waking up with no hangovers - HEAVEN!

Sometimes you have to follow the saying 'Fake it till you make it'.

You can try - instead of going out, why not go to a meeting?

Hope you come back! Hugs to you.

Congrats, I think you nailed it .... I can come up with hundreds of excuses to drink, however none of them are valid reasons to do so. Enjoy your weekend

Maybe I can save myself from myself and do something like hiking and swimming and enjoying nature instead of making an ass out of myself.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
You're welcome. You're welcome. You're welcome.

You have the support of a lot of people. We believe you can do it! Now, all you need is to believe in yourself and do it!

See you on Monday.

You did so great by coming here and telling on your addiction.
I think you already have a lot going for you because you did that very early in the recovery process!
Now, the only thing left is for you to start taking some of this "great advice" that everyone is offering!

I've tried that strategy in the past. Setting a certain date to quit, but always seemed to be pushing that date back one day, one hour, one minute. Why not start now! You'll wake up feeling a whole lot better on Monday than you would if you were to drink this weekend.

I hope for the best for you!

Wow - JPat - how did you pick up on the camping thing? I'm 6 days sober and am already worried about how I'll handle the annual camping trip to The Adirondacks for Labor Day Weekend.
Eclipse - I understand your perspective. I keep telling myself- now, if I get through today sober, then I can drink for Labor Day Weekend. It's so crazy. I should probably be thinking of what could go wrong if I drink on my camping trip.

Lame would be saying nothing and not posting - you could have.
You didn't - and you got some replies that made you think and
re-assess things and which, I hope, will get you through the weekend

nah - not lame.

We all think rationalisation crap - the difference between then and now is what we do with it.

See you Monday!

Wink

So, I made it through the weekend. Although I did drink I was very good and did not get drunk. Usually the party starts early afternoon, I held back and watched myself and went slow. I thought about all of you all weekend and lots of the things you said.

Although it may not have been acceptable that I drank, I really watched myself and kept things under control. I woke up feeling great today, ready to start again with NO alcohol. I don't want to think that just because I did it this weekend, this is the new me and I can control myself, because I know it will happen again and I will abuse it again if I don't just stop the insanity. So today is a good day to get going again.

Thanks for the support and I am looking forward to a new start...again! I hope you all had successful weekends!
