what is my brain DOING?!
Hang in there DG..
If AA will be your program of recovery ..
The obsession of the mind along with the physical allergy = being powerless over alcohol.
The answer in AA is believing in and finding a power to combat that obsession.
The 12 steps are the pathway to that power.
Praying for You.

Day Five. Went to AA yesterday but didn't ask anyone to sponsor me. The whole group was all about religion again and I really have a hard time contemplating theology while also trying to stop drinking. I'll go again, though.

You don't have to jump on a sponsor within the first week. Consider all of us here at SR as temporary sponsors until you find someone to whom you feel a connection.
Keep "dancing" from meeting to meeting until you find the ones where you feel the most comfortable. Don't know exactly where OUTSIDE of a bottle is; but, hopefully there are many, many meetings to choose from. BTW...one of my first home groups was a "young people's" meeting. They held a dance every week; and, although I was old enough to be their mother, I thoroughly enjoyed myself!
