Hello ... I am a newbie

I've been reading this site for a large part of the day and so much of what I've seen is profoundly inspirational. It's amazing to see this type of support group and the members are so wise and kind to each other. I hope to learn from you.

Today I spoke to my doctor about the fact that I've had a drink everyday for the last several years of my life. First it was just a shot for that initial high and then it became two, then three ... and so on. I've slowly been realizing that I've completely lost control of this terrible addiction. I am an addict. Fortunately, I've been able to keep the rest of my life in tact, but it's getting scary how close I am coming to really upsetting the good that I have around me.

Life is too short, and I don't want to be a slave to alcohol. I'm shaky, and would love a drink, but not anymore. I hope I can do this.

Thank you for allowing me to introduce myself.
M ~

Hi FlowerButterfly!!! Welcome to SR. I am new myself and am 5 days sober. I started out drinking for that rush. Then I started drinking to cope. Then, I started drinking because it's how I felt normal. It really does become your master. I've been a slave to it for 12 years. Good for you for reaching out!
