I'm back and still struggling.

Hello,

I haven't been on this board for quite awhile. Still struggling with alcoholism and feel it's getting more out of control and I'm getting scared. I think I need to go into rehab. The only thing is, is that I'm scared. I've never been to one and have no idea what to expect. Can anyone give me some information if you have been through rehab. And how do you go about choosing one. I live in NY and want to attend a good, private rehab.
Thank you,
Theresa

I loved rehab.

Warm comforting environment where I could get help to focus on my problems.

My suggestion is don't even hesitate. But I was scared to death before I went too, so I know how you feel.

Hi Theresa,

Welcome back!

I haven't been to rehab but I'm there are lots of folks who can give you some opinions. Also, you might see what you dr suggests.

I'm glad you are seeking recovery.

I've been in rehab three times, obviously it didn't help the first couple times, but it was a safe supportive learning place. There were so many people from all walks of life and all fighting addictions. Made me feel less alone.

You can google rehab places in your area. Should get you a list of different rehab places. Then you can call them for info on their cost and programs. All the best to you.:ghug3

As you know I am only down the road from you.
As far as private rehabs go. I dont know. I am sure you can do a search and find one.
I went to Conifer Park in Glenville last year and wouldnt reccomend it. it was more like being in middle school. About 40 women on one floor and nothing but drama. Reminded meof being in jail.
I then went to ST Mary's in Troy. That one I did like. It is in the hospital. And pretty confined. But it was a very small group of people and everyone was wonderful.
If you would like I can do the search for you and PM you with a list of private rehabs in the area.

I am so glad you are willing to do this. It is a huge step.
I remember your struggles last year and have never forgotten you.

I went to rehab for drugs 14 years ago and I LOVED it! I learned so much and am so grateful that I could have that time and just focus on me and my recovery!
Today I am 48 days sober from alcohol and unfortunately I do not have the ability to take the time off from my life to go into treatment. So my advice? Go for it and soak up everything you can!! Be grateful for the time and take advantage of jump starting your recovery!
Good luck!!
