Withdrawal and Stress/Depression

Hi everyone,
Is it normal to become over anxious about things during early recovery? I'm on day 7 and didn't have any physical withdrawals, but today I have felt weighted down by depression and am overstressing/overthinking things. For example, my cats have both recently had a few health problems (one had a UTI and one just got put on meds for hyperthyroidism) and I find myself obsessing about their behavior and worrying that everything is a symptom of another problem. Like, this morning one of them was in the litter box more often than usual, and I was worried. Then she hasn't gone back in since then, so now I'm worried about THAT. It's neverending and driving me crazy! I've also found myself crying at random times the past couple of days.

So, AM I crazy, or could this be a symptom of withdrawal?

Welcome to early Recovery colagirl.

You are going to have mood swings, emotional ups and downs and cry for reasons you don't understand.

You have to remember, you were numbing your feelings for how long?

Try to find something to take your mind off things. I know for me, when my mind wants to go a mile a minute, I take a walk and look around at the beautiful things that I have missed out on. I never knew watching the squirrels run around in the trees and across the power lines could be so entertaining.

I'm gonna send you a PM about the kitties. I've had cats most of my life.

God Bless,
Judy

Hey Colagirl. Your emotions, that have been sedated by the hooch, start bouncing all over the chart as your brain begins to dry out. It's like you have set them free and they are out to play for while. I hear that it's a good thing. It means that your emotions are working. So just stay focused and things will start getting better soon.

Congrats on a big day 7....

Thanks for the break! I'm feeling slightly better now and am thinking about going to bed. Hopefully I'll get a good night's sleep.

Take care, everyone.

I'm on day 17 and having a lot of depression and anxiety. Could be just all the stuff that's going on in the home. I mostly pray to God to get me thru this. I have to turn my problems over to my Higher Power as I'm too small to handle them. It does get better with time, if that's any consolation. :ghug3

I think that it is normal. I hope it is, anyway, because I too have been having a lot of ups and downs with anxiety and depression. And it comes on so suddenly and once it hits I feel like I can't even stand up anymore. So far I haven't felt the need to drink.... I just have a hard time even getting out of bed. (But I do because I have too many people that I would let down if I didn't.)

I am working harder with my therapist right now. He has helped me understand a lot of what I am feeling and also directed me to some great books that have helped as well.

I hope that today is a better day on the rollercoaster for you!

You are not alone with how you feel.

This morning I was feeling a lot better and actually *gasp* relaxed and enjoyed myself for a few hours! Now that I am home and settled in I can feel the anxiety coming back, unfortunately. I am very grateful to have had those few hours because it helps me to know that I won't feel like this forever! Going to play tennis in a little while and hoping that will help.
