I Can't Stop Drinking

What should I do?

ex D-Boy 05-30-2008 06:19 PM

maybe check yourself into a 30 day inpatient rehab???? maybe check out some meetings?? Hard to give you advice when you haven't really told us what your story is.

I do know when i couldn't stop injecting myself with dope I went into rehab and got my **** together. the rehab was a tremendous help.

Did you give up on seeing your doctor
and going to de tox/treament facility?

I still think that is a wise move
and you have been sober before
so you know you can do it again.

Be as safe as possible during this binge.
Please no driving.

Danielson,

You can stop. I understand how difficult it seems right now.

Yes, talk to your dr, try a treatment centre or go to an ER if things are bad.

Please take care of yourself.

I went to my doctor. She gave me a prescription to help with the withdrawals last week.

I'm a somewhat a responsible drinker, and don't drive. Anyway, I went to 4 AA meetings last week, and the last meeting I went to didn't go very well. The guy that was holding the meeting told his story and I said, "I was alot like you."

The people in there gave me a strange look. It made me feel very uncomfortable. It seems like the people in there think they are better than the people who are new at trying to get sober.

Danielson,

I don't go to meetings, but is it possible that you just thought the people looked at you strangely? I remember vividly, the last weeks when I was drinking and trying desperately to stop, that my mind was not clear. Of course, it's possible that you are right about the people. Maybe you could try a different meeting?

I too felt strange in AA for awhile.
"Who were these weirdo people"?
:)
And perhaps AA is not for you...I dunno.

The point is to find a way to quit and stay quit.

Did you use the meds from your doctor?
Did they help?

I am very glad you don't drive after drinking.
That's a huge plus....

You may be right.

I'm trying so hard to find that reason.

I don't want to trade one addiction for another.

After 2 DUI's you will learn your lesson.

So the question is, Can't quit or Won't quit? I bet you could quit if you really wanted to.

colagirl 05-30-2008 07:52 PM

Danielson,
It sounds like you have a desire to stop since you came to this forum and asked for help. Is there a recovery facility you could check yourself into? Or maybe you could start with detox and then go from there? If you've already been to the doctor and gotten withdrawal meds and it hasn't helped, maybe inpatient is the way to go?

Best of luck to you.

Danielson- I felt like people looked at me weird for a long time in AA too, but as I have learned more about my codependency and addiction... my reality is not necessarily what is actually going on. My mind can create a lot of DRAMA!

I am sorry that guy singled you out like that. That really was very inappropriate. Have you gotten a sponser? If so I would talk to them about how you felt about it. AA members are just people with faults....
