It's gonna be one of those days

Ok, so I plan to go to the 10:30 meeting that's listed on both the meeting list I was given last night, and listed on the AA website. I get there, and there is not a car in the parking lot. I'm early, so I figure I'll drive around the block. Did it 4 times and still no cars @ 10:35. I'm gonna call one of the people who gave me their numbers last night, but I just had to vent here, before I did. Told ya I was was b*tchy.

Thanks Anna,

I called the hotline and asked and she told me it should have been ok. So I called one of the women I met last night, and she said the meeting was at 8:30 this morning...LOL...The good news is that there is another meeting tonight, she was very happy to hear from me, and I now have a temporary sponsor, who will meet me there. Man, this is quite the rollercoaster ride! Oh, and I haven't had a drink

Glad to hear you're not drinking over these setbacks. I know you can do this, it just is a bumpy ride at first sometimes. But stick with it. Together we can do this!:ghug3

Yes...some days are not what we plan.

I just called 5 AA members for a ride
before 1 answered....and is coming.
No longer driving is a major pain
when theres no public transportation.

I reckon we will both continue to move forward

Maybe there was a REASON that you thought the meeting was at 10:30.....you got a chance to talk to someone, who is now going to sponsor you.....very cool.

So, no more angst about it....see how things play out when you do the right thing?

I love hearing stories like this!

Thank you flygirl!!!

Honu,

I've come to the conclusion that everything that has happened today has been for a reason. Like I said, I'm just gonna strap myself in and hang on! I'm also gonna go lay by the pool and catch some of these beautiful Fl rays. Thanks for listening, guys :ghug

Maybe it makes up for all the times that a meeting was there and you weren't.

Today was a test I guess you could say.
You proved to yourself how life can happen and how you can get through it with the proper efforts. A rescheduled meeting ended up gaining you a temp sponsor with just a phone call.
Nice change to how things started out.

Good for you.

Thanks Best,

I hope the test for today is over. I'm trying like h*ll to make the proper efforts and I'm tired I'm gonna finish cooking my noodles and garlic peanut sauce and then take a nap, before I head out to that meeting. And yes, I am very grateful that the meeting wasn't on, because I chose that person to call, who is now willing to be my temporary sponsor. She made an extra effort last night to give me her business card with a note on it that said"Call me if you need to talk". So I did. Not sure if I'm making a whole lot of sense here, I'm that tired...the good news is still haven't wanted to drink over any of today's little bumps

hi flgirl-

Your share reminds me of when I first got sober - andhad a terrible night at my 'new' job (it was this job ... only new then) so I raced out to catch the seven am meeting at a local church ....

... and no one showed. I waited over half an hour (just like you described, shaking and nervous) and just as I was completely freaking out about what was I going to do, where was I going to go ....

... one guy drives up.

We stood in the parking lot of that church for two and a half hours, talking about all sorts of things, not only recovery.

What's the point?

The point is -
I learned/was shown early EARLY in recovery,
that HP will find a way.
When the desire is truly there ... so is the means.
That everything is exactly as is should be and the only one NOT seeing that simple fact... is me.

I think you're off to a great start. Congratulations!!!

Thanks Barb,

I'm actually really glad there wasn't a meeting when I thought there was. Turns out the meeting I went to on Friday night gave me a year old meeting list. I got a new one tonight, and sure enough, no 10:30 meeting on Saturday morning. The only thing that bothers me is that I called the hotline and was told, "Yes, there should be a meeting there at that time.". I did the right thing and called one of the women from the night before, but if that had been my first attempt at going to a meeting, I might have completely freaked out...LOL...Anyway, it all worked out for the best! I survived and didn't drink over it :bounce

Hey there, can't you sleep either? Or don't you want to sleep? We're in the same time zone and tho I'd love to be sound asleep I just cannot relax enough to fall asleep. I love to listen my dogs' deep even breathing in their sleep and know that they are safe and warm and loved, but damn it! I'd love to be asleep and listening to MY deep even breathing!!

I'm glad everything turned out so well for you yesterday. I believe that nothing happens by mistake, it's all part of A Great Plan run by the Great Planner. We just don't always understand The Plan!

For me, the guy was the ESSENCE of what Alcoholics Anonymous is all about.

He didn't HAVE to stay in the parking lot with me and hang out.
But he did, because he knew I was in a bad way.
Your story made me remember that, and I thank you for the reminder.
