Anti Depressants
I'm not so sure anti depressants are necessarily just prescribed for detox if that's what you're asking.
I have had Dr.'s tell me that a great number of alcoholics actually do suffer from clinical depression and it's only magnified by drinking. Most people don't seek out meds for depression while they are drinking. They (we) simply think the depression is due to drinking. Each time I went into detox, one of the first questions the Dr. asked me was if I was taking my prescribed meds for depression, in my case, Prozac. No, I had stopped when I relapsed. And I imagine that drinking would pretty much make anti depressant meds not work at all. Kinda like canceling out its benefits.
Since July '05, I consider my Prozac a part of my Recovery plan.
Hope that answers your question.
Blessings,
Judy

No...I used no meds for de toxing
Has your doctor said it would be wise for you?
Please have an honest talk with her/him
before you stop abruptly.
Be both safe and sober....

No the doc has given me the meds for depression, however I have never hidden the fact that I drink, and was told by a doctor couple of years ago that I wasn't getting away with it.
If I am being very honest I think I have drunk for many years to ease the depression. Now the drink doesn't work (it never really did) but I find it very hard to stop.
But will keep trying none the less.
