Take your time mate and don't rush into anything that's not for you. The trick is to find a method of recovery that suits you and keeps you off the booze without compromising your lifestyle/beliefs.

Explore, there is a lot out there.

I wish you all the best in your recovery.

We had a conversation after my AA meeting yesterday about blackouts as most of us had experienced them in our later drinking years. It is not normal for a person to black out. That is your body telling you that it cannot process the alcohol you are taking into your body.

Talk to a Dr. regarding the physical effects and withdrawals. Also, I would suggest trying 90 meetings in 90 days without drinking - just go in with an open mind, sit and listen. This is not only good for your research, but it starts a routine where you will not drink.

And as far as permanent labels go, for me, alcoholic is better than DOA.

Good luck on your journey and keep posting!

OneTooMany, you sound exactly like I did about 6 months before I finally learned that yes, indeed, I am an alcoholic and needed help.

You are in the right place... welcome!

I was really tired last night and laid down early to sleep. But I was there for about 2 hours...my body tired but my mind racing. Then I sat up for a bit and for the next few hours thought about getting something to drink. I even paced around for a bit.

But I didn't....I eventually laid back down and went to sleep. Woke up early, kinda sweaty. Couldn't get back to sleep so I'm pretty tired today.
