A Little Encouragement
A Little Encouragement
I am not too far past the 90 day mark and I want to offer my encouragement to everyone just starting out. Somewhere along the way, fear & guilt stopped driving my sobriety – I no longer have to use “negative” feelings to stay away from alcohol. Well before I hit the 90 day mark, I really started to appreciate what a good life a sober life is. Most of the time, I am content & enjoying what life has to offer. When I feel down, it usually has nothing to do with my drinking history. My alcoholism is what it is - not a burden that I carry around. I still do get those occasional crazy thoughts but I have yet to come too close to acting upon them. This means I have more work to do but I am finding that most of that work to be okay, sometimes enjoyable – meeting people, learning about myself, helping each other, becoming a better person.
Whatever you are doing to maintain your sobriety:
Believe in yourself
Reach out, ask questions - don't be scared to ask for help
Work hard but don't rush things – I believe that if you keep pushing yourself to learn & get better, the sooner you will start living the benefits of sobriety
Do what you have to do to get through the tough times – “this to shall pass” is so true
Don't get frustrated - many days, not drinking was all that I accomplished
Use all resources that you find are appropriate & are available – In my case AA, prayer, SR, family support, self-help books, time management, fitness, enjoying sober activities – anything that helps you feel good about yourself will strengthen your sobriety. Personally, I would sooner overdo my efforts than not do enough and end up drinking again.
Best wishes!

Thanks Butterfly. I do appreciate the congrats. I am closer to the 4 month mark and I just wanted to post some of my thoughts to encourage others who are kind of new to sobriety.
Great work on the sober time! Feels good, eh?
Take care. D
