okay, THAT was weird.
okay, THAT was weird.
At my sponsor's request I hit up a new lunchtime meeting. At the end during the Lord's prayer someone grabs my hand and calls me by name. I don't even recognize this person.
Turns out it was my much older cousin's x-partner, who has known me me since I was growing up in the family as a teenager (I'm 35 now). They (cousin and him) separated 10 or so years ago, so I haven't seen this guy in a long while. But oh was that weird to have someone approach me like that.
After being taken aback for a moment, I guess it was weird in a good way. For the first time I know someone in AA who KNOWS me. A little scary, but a little comforting at the same time. So we exchange numbers and I expect we'll get together sometime soon. A month ago when I started this thing I would probably be completely freaked out. But I'm in God's hands now, so if He wants me to reunite with old family members, I will.

THere are more of us than we think! Just another reminder that we are not alone. I find that comforting. I too went to a meeting a while back and ran into someone I knew. I would never have guessed that this person had a problem with alcohol, but there she was. Just like me! It was a relief to find someone I knew who had the same problems as I did and was working on their recovery same as me.:ghug
I went to a local AA roundup.
I thought I recognized the main speaker. I turned to a friend and said "If he mentions Pink Floyd, or Covina, I know It's him". He did.
He was the local drug dealer back in the day, and voted most likely to end up in prison. Last we heard, he was passing out drunk and crashing cars. The day I saw him, he was celebrating 14 years.....

Hmmm...
I was a public drinker and have no
problem in being a public AA member.
Good thing because ...
At my 2nd AA meeting were 6 peple I knew
3 regulars from restaurants I had worked in
3 ex lovers.
It was good to see thay too were finding
for a solution to our alcoholism.
I do hope they succeeded.
