Day 1 and determined...

Hello all... I've been reading posts for a few days now and, without even knowing, you guys have made such a positive impact on my decision to recover from alcohol abuse/dependency/addiction.

I have been awake all night and seriously dread the withdrawal that is coming my way. I hope to have people to talk to or chat with during this process. I've tried quitting before and would really LOVE for this to be my last time. Before, I had no support whatsoever. As a former adult entertainer, people thought I was "weird" if I didn't want to drink or do drugs.

Well, I've been married (to a non-user) for 8 years now and it's time to be the partner/wife I know I can be.

I love veganism, camping, yoga, dancing, and all other things that alcohol should not be a part of. Look forward to getting to know some of you in recovery....

hi daffodil - welcome to SR!

Are you detoxing with the advice /supervision of a doctor?
It can be dangerous to quit drinking cold turkey.
Fatal, even.

Do you have a program of recovery? A plan?

Support is what it's all about, isn't it?
I'm glad you found us!
Please - feel free to read to your heatrt's content -
there'll be others along shortly to add their welcomes also.

Might want to go over to the Alcoholism forum ...
and read the stickies at the top of the page the "Under the Influence" excerpts especially!

I suggest you go to our Alcoholism Forum and read
the top sticky post on withdrawal.

Have you spoken to your doctor about your decision?
It's wise to not do de tox alone.

Welcome to SR!

Hi, and welcome :)

I just joined this community yesterday, I am on day 10. The first few days were tough, and I could never have foreseen how well and optimistic I feel now. What a difference a week makes!

I'm sure you will do it this time, because you genuinely want to.

All the best

Hi Daffodil,

How is your day going?

I think it's great that you are looking forward to things.

daffodil75 04-08-2008 10:22 AM

Wow, didn't realize I'd get such a warm welcome... Thank you guys very much. Just woke up from somewhat of a morning nap and am seriously jittery and foggy today. Also, didn't realize I may need medical help with detoxing. Am going to read the detox sticky right now...

dave47 04-08-2008 11:25 AM

Welcome to SR daffodil,
plenty of support for you here-let the recovery begin.

serenityqueen 04-08-2008 11:40 AM

Well, here comes yet another Welcome!:Dance7:

Also, you mentioned being married, have you told your Hubby what's going on? I really would encourage you to let him know so he can keep an eye on you and if you would start having problems with the detox, he'll know what's going on and can get some help right away.

This is a wonderful group of people on here. I never knew I had Family literally all over the world! In this big ole house of ours, someone is always awake to talk to 24/7. Did you notice that chat room at the top? Lots of times there's someone in there too.

Stick around and watch the Miracle unfold in you too!

God Bless & Thank God . . . Just for Today,
Judy

I spoke with my doctor today on the phone and, YES, I will be under care. My appt. is not til Wed. and I may need rehab b/c there are so many other issues. I've basically been on "something" since I was 18 or 19. (coke, marijuana, drink) I'm 32 now. I'll be sure and let you all know how this is going to play out. Thanks again...

Well, yesterday and today is PURE HELL!!!!! I'm having major problems! I'll be going to the doc early today. I had to drink a little last night. And, not wanting to trigger anyone here, I will be back with a new Day 1 here soon in the next couple of days as I'll have medical supervision. I am so tired of this crap!

Had an intense conversation with my husband on the issue as he is the perfect example of an enabler. My family life has been turned upside down, in and out...

If that's not enough, I am 3 weeks late for menstrual cycle. I simply CANNOT be pregnant while going through this... I've had 2 miscarriages in the last 2 years; we remain childless. I think it's my fault. How can I live with myself if I harm yet another pregnancy?

Please pray for me... I will continue to read as many posts as I can. This demon will be beaten once and for all...
