You know what really sucks?

When you live alone, have been sober for a while and you wake up in the middle of the night after having a bad dream and you realize you are all alone. The room is completely black and you are wondering what just happended. It's pretty scary, and not something that used to happen to me when I drank all the time. I never dreamed, or even woke in the night for that matter. I just wanted to post this since it has been on my mind all day and I wanted to get it out and share/ get feedback.

Thanks for letting me rant/ share. :sorry

That's when you get on here!

24/7 people who want to talk that can't sleep, had a bad dream, just got home from work, have a sick child who's up in the middle of the night, live on the other side of the world . . . . For me, this don't suck!:rof

Try going to sleep with soothing music
and a dim light on.
I also keep a bowl of hard candy by my bed.

...Works quite well.

ya its no fun sleeping alone, similar thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I had to get up and turn on the lights as i still felt buzzed from a using dream. I was very unsettled.

Got on here and searched dreams and came up with this thread. http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...hat-dream.html It

was comforting being able to talk about it like your doing now.

So vent away

I sleep with the radio on a good bit of the time .. but I sleep during the day.

I'm the only person I kinow that the sound of lawnmowers, chainsaws, and roaring harleys ... makes me sleepy.

Yeah I agree about the nightlight and coming to SR. I can't fall asleep without some sound so I set the tv on an hour timer, and if I wake up after a nightmare I immediately turn it on to have some company. Also, it is childish, but I sleep with a teddy bear which is also comforting.

i'm so glad to hear that a lot of you sleep with sound on. i have such a hard time falling asleep if there's no sound b/c the thoughts that swirl round and round endlessly in my head keep me up. not so, if i can listen to something else.
if i wake up in the middle of the night and can't get a nightmare out of my head i turn on some lights, wash my face, read a mag and go back to bed as if it were evening. fresh start so to speak. maybe that will help you too.
but if it's a dream and a good one, i try to close my eyes and 'catch it again.' try it! it usually works

My dad used to tell us "when you're alone, you know you're in good company"!! and to a degree, you don't have to be alone. You've got us. Just a keyboard away. :ghug3

Ditto here on being a TV sleeper. It's funny how much off what's on the TV gets incorporated into my dreams.

And in November after my gf moved out and took the cats with her, I adopted a couple from the animal shelter. In the last couple of weeks the one is starting to curl up by my legs when I sleep. It's comforting...and keeps my legs really warm.

When I'm home in Maryland, I sleep with my 2 chocolate labs, always keeping me company/hogging my bed. Since I've been sober, I've always had roomates. I like the t.v. or tunes when I sleep. I'm used to livin' alone though, but usually I was drunk then. Lonliness is not always a good thing.
