Hi Everyone

Just found this forum as I have been really thinking about quitting drinking again. I did a few years ago for about 6 months and then started up again. I guess I am a functioning alcoholic, good job, wife, house and then come home and drink about 10 beers. I want to just stop cold turkey but don't know if I should go to my doctor for any meds or not. last time withdrawels were not to bad, but then I read an article on some DT's can be deadly.
Anyway just wanted to say hi and hear any feedback anyone has.
Thanks,

I am not a drinker. But I have seen it get ugly when one stops cold turkey. I think it wouldnt hurt to consult your Dr.

Hello Stinger, Good to see you here. Ditto on NOMOMERLOTMAMMA. Cold Turkey is way dangerous. Go to the doc as they say they can help you, they understand. I know its frightening and embarrasing but its what you deserve! If, your honest you will get what you need to get through it. I am a binge drinker, when I stopped it was the sweats, nightmares even had a grand mal at home alone and didn't even know it . Till my Burmese cat was on my chest in serious distress for me. Went to work the next day right as rain and then two days later Inoticed I'd practically chewed half my tounge off and my calves hurt like hell. I though I had meningitis or something although I am a healthy active person. I deduced it was this cold turkey idiotic idea I had in my head that would work.

Do, it or find a doctor who understands alcoholism. That's the best advice I can give you.

Good Luck! Stay strong we are always here. for you!

Ermine

Welcome to SR Stinger. Lots of support here, stick around Definitely consult with a doc you can trust and openly discuss your problem, that should help make withdrawing from alcohol much more comfortable for you.

Take care, read a lot, post a lot

Matt

Thumbs up

Thanks to everyone for the replies and support. I did see the doc and I am now sober for 6 days. I have been so busy and haven't had much time to check, but wanted to say thanks. Anyway dinner is ready and will try to be back more often.
Thanks,
Steve
