Red face Newbie: Growing

Hi I'm Growing. I am a recovering co-dependent. Both my parents were alcoholics. I usually post in Friends and Family and ACOA...but I have been lurking around all the areas, pretty much. Still figuring out SR...even though I have been here for awhile.

Couldn't decide whether to post here or not because I am not a recovering alcoholic or addict. But then I saw the blurb across the bar above the newcomers to recovery link:

"New to Addiction and Recovery?

If you're new to addiction and recovery, substance abuse, codependency, mental health or support groups- start here."

Then I figured I would just dive in....

I am starting over after a "codie slip" of 2yrs. I tried to rescue someone. I had to go no contact with this person so that I could begin recovery again. Before that...I had been involved with alanon for 10+ years. I thought it was ok to try to rescue this person because they weren't an alcoholic or addict...bad move...now I am realizing that I need to practice the 12step principles in ALL MY AFFAIRS. I don't regret my experience though....It landed me here...and I feel like I am working my program for the first time...I am experiencing moments of real serenity...unlike before.

Thanks for the opportunity to share.

Looking forward to getting to know new friends.

Hi and Welcome to Newcomers,

I do understand the feelings you have.

I am a recovering alcoholic, but I was a people-pleaser long, long before I began drinking. Trying to fix family issues was what I did. And, what I got from it, was depressed and lost. Focusing on your recovery is the way to go! And, always be kind to yourself.

Growing, 2 days ago I picked up a 1 year CoDA chip. But my GF and I giggle every now and then, thinking that if we had to pick up 24 hour chips every time we had a codie slip I'd have a drawer full of them :rof

I hope I never lose the feeling of being a newcomer, it keeps me focused on my sobriety and recovery from codependency, and I'm blessed to share it with people like you every day.
