Thumbs up Topic: Rarely Have We Seen A Person Fail. How Honest Are You?

Hi Im Sharon and Im an alcoholic.

By the grace of my HP and people
like you here in SR I havent found
it necessary to pick up a drink
since 8-11-90.

For that and you I am truely
grateful.

As you read in the BIG BOOK
of ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS
in the Chapter of HOW IT
Works, you will see where
it says....

RARELY HAVE we seen a person fail
who has thoroughly followed our path.
Those who do not recover are people
who cannot or will not completely
give themselves to this simple program,
usually men and women who are
constitutionally incapable of being
honest with themselves.

The question is....HOW HONEST
ARE YOU?

Honest in your everyday affairs.
At your job. With your family.
With yourself?

I was NEVER completely honest
in all my life esp. with family
members. However I didnt
drink over it, it just took
a lesson of slow learing
to finally get to this point
in my life to understand and
change my old behavior.

If you cant be COMPLETELY
HONEST as I have learned
through this awesome program,
then staying sober or clean
can be difficult.....but once
you do become honest then
the promises and rewards
are unbleveable.

A whole new world is opened
up for you just like it has for me.

I realized that my life in the
past was as it was and that
i did what i did for reasons I
kepted close to the vest. Even
tho i knew it was wrong, I couldnt
the time become totally honest....

So instead of harboring those
feeling and keeping the other
person from experiencing freedom
and joy they so deserved, I finally
let them go. and now Im free
as well....

Freedom to know the difference
and move on with my life....

Today I know a new freedom
that I have never experienced
before in all my yrs. What joy.

If you are a slow learner
like I in recovery,,,,thats
ok.....just keep working
the steps and turning
ur will and life over to
ur own HP. Ask for guidance
and strength to go to
any lengths to achieve
the PROMISES you
so deserve in recovery.

Continue to work on
Willingness, Honesty
and openmindedness.

Thanks for letting me
share.

Not as honest as I need to be, but much more than I was before. At least now, I'm able to catch it when I'm lying to myself.

Wow Sharon... Thank you...

This is a glimpse into what I want, where I hope I'm headed.

I see a long and painful road ahead of me. Heck, at 30 days, I've been BEGGING people to let me do a 4/5th step... ;-) I know I'm not ready, but I am preparing for the road...

Thank you---

Thanks for that post sharon. I see what you mean about honesty being important. I would like to someday be able to be honest with myself as well.

I know that feeling, I wanted 10 years sober the day I walked into the doors the first time. I assume you have a sponsor, if not at least ask someone to be your temporary sponsor. You need to really work the steps with a sponsor and make sure that when you get ready to do that 5th step it is with someone you really trust. If you can not find some one in the rooms find a priest or someone else you really trust.

My expereince is to work the steps with a sponsor, do not rush them, take your time, do not drag your feet, but make sure you have a good grasp of a step before you move to the next one.

Keep in mind that it took a while to get where you are at now, do not be impatient, realize that it will take time to recover and that time takes time.

Yes Taz -- that's EXACTLY right... I want it all and I want it all NOW... lol

I'm thinking that will sound familiar to more than one person on SR.

I really don't have a sponsor yet, but I am looking. I do have a FABUOUS priest that is VERY involved in 12-steps and he's an amaing blessing to me now, as he has been for many years.

I was at my Third or Fourth meeting when I ask if we could have 4th Step as a topic... and basically, all around the table, the theme ended up being "Slow Down". It's my nature...

And the other recurring theme that day was, if you don't understand a Step, the best thing to do is back UP a step, and work on that one some more... So, I took that to heart and am sticking to 1,2 and 3 for now.

Thank you........
