The times you would normally drink . . .
The times you would normally drink . . .
What do you do during the times you would normally drink? Tonight my husband is bowling. This is the time I would normally drink. At first I was scared when he left, because I immediately thought about drinking. Now I am drinking green tea and typing on my laptop. I think I am okay now, but I wonder about all those other times in the future – like when I am at a restaurant, or family gathering (there is always alcohol at them).
Anyone have any other suggestions?

I drank at home alone too so it was a huge trigger for me when my husband went away. I had to change my routines and do different things at different times. It really helped.
I also found I could not be around alcohol for quite a long time and I avoided any kind of gathering where there would be alcohol.

To start, just worry about today
For myself i avoided situations with alcohol till i am over the hump. Have just over 5 months now and am feeling ok with someone having one or two drinks around me. I also give my self an out and take off if too much booze starts to fly.

Hey Diane,
For me, it depends on the situation. I'm a bowler too, and bowling night was drinking night (one of few). Until last week, it was coffee night.
Now for the weekend evenings, my prime drinking times, I went to AA meetings (instead of the bar) then treated myself to pizza and wings and movies on demand.
Keep up with the green tea. I'm starting to replace some of my heavy coffee drinking with it, and it does have a slight calming effect for me.

Diane,
I have found that tea has become one of my regular evening drinks. My wife and I buy flavored creamer and special teas. It has become my special nighttime (or daytime) thing. Trying different flavors, etc. has been somewhat like wine tasting, (well almost, my wife doesn't give me the look the next morning, you know the look)
Changing your routine is IMPORTANT. Sitting along is dangerous for me. I have to keep busy. Keep posting here. It is a great help! It burns up some of my time and it helps to remind me why I am drinking tea and not wine!
Take care

Clean the house, go for a walk, pull weeds out of your garden, bake/cook something....anything active. If I keep busy-I can get through those times.Sitting down, being passive is a huge trigger for me.I have to do something.
