Never done 'online' support before..

Today is day 1 for me. I've had lots of day ones. This one is different however, because I've left my home and am staying with my parents to detox so I don't hurt the people I live with. My plan is to do online support...join a forum, such as this one. I've also started a blog to blog my progress at "iwanttoquitnow dot blogspot dot c0m". (lol...can't post URLs...:wtf2)

Tomorrow or the next day I will find and go to an AA meeting, but I don't like the higher power part of it.

Anyway, thanks for having this site and I look forward to reading all the encouraging posts!

Hi and Welcome,

You will find lots of support here, so I hope you keep reading and posting.

We also have a Blog section here, if you are interested in that.

Thanks for the welcomes

So tonight I go to my first meeting. Hope no one from work is there. And it's day 2. I still feel unshakey of course...only day 2. I usually start to feel bad around day 3-4. Lets see how this plays out.

I like to IRC. Are there any IRC servers/channels accociated with SR?

Hi IWTQ, and welcome to SR. I'm an AA person and go to a meeting every afternoon, but online support at this site is a great addition to my recovery program. I hope you feel comfortable here and continue to use anything that helps you.

Hi Iwanttoquit... I'm on day 2 as well. Trying to face the most recent repercussions of my ways... and the shame of this all... and facing the need to quit... and it all makes me want a drink!
Anyhow, I'm contimplating an AA meeting tonight too, but for some reason I always have a difficult time with "that step". I know you said you have an aversion to the HP portion, for me, that's not it. I Think it might be the "reality check" of the admission. I don't know.
Meeting here starts at 8, I know because my husband recently started going. I see there is a newbie chat at 9 (Eastern)...
Think I'll go back to bed and give up thinking about it until then. Maybe that's the best strategy for the moment... ??

I found this place by accident and I didnt think it would really help at all. Boy was I wrong.

Before coming here I was only planning on cutting back my drinking. Then after reading about other peoples experiences struggling with alcohol I decided to stop completely and not turn back while I still have a choice. So far so good.

Seems my strength and determination grow even more so with each time I write here on the boards about my desire to quit. It's like it helps me keep concentration on my focus toward sobriety.

This place has helped me a lot! Hope it does as much good for you as it has for me.

Welcome - I am staying with my parents to get my recovery moving forward as well after a recent relapse especially.

You might entertain the idea of checking out a few different AA meetings. This gets 2 things accomplished - 1. it will hopefully prevent you from drinking for the time you are in the meeting (i am assuming your drug of choice is alcohol since you referred to AA), and 2. it will show you a little about the program so you can decide if it's right for you.

The most important part is to not drink.

Glad your here!
