Resentment
Resentment
I was reading one of the threads here the other day and someone wrote in one of them - "Harbouring resentment is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die."
It really struck a chord with me, I finally got it! I had one of those rare moments when you suddenly understand something very clearly. Holding on to ancient grudges and constantly keeping track of every little thing people do or say that upsets me is one of the things that has been crippling me. This one sentence just completely changed my attitude to the people around me.
Anyways, since I can't find the original thread, I just wanted to say thank you to the person who wrote that.

Thanks Mandarina, it is a good quote. I find that in the past i have been involved in one or two ongoing feuds and it affected my mood greatly and i would sometimes stew on it for ages. I work with a few people who bug me and i think they are either wind up merchants or just full of it. What i do is take a deep breath and think to myself "Tolerance and respect." I find i can laugh to myself at their antics and can think and speak calmly and continue without any problem. Theres always someone else ready to shoot someone down and get into a big barney, i just want a peaceful life.

Hmmmmn...good one! I also like "Letting them live rent-free in your head." I would hate to think that whoever initiated the resentment has gone happily on his/her way while I'm wasting good brain cells on them when they don't deserve the time of day!

So true!!
That is the best quote I have heard for a long time! Resentment does really drag you down. It is such a burden to carry. I wasted a year with feeing like that. Before the end of this past year, I decided I will not let resentment waste anymore of my time! I'm sure you all have heard that quote, "To forgive is so divine."
We'll it sure is!!

I especially like this thing on Resentment!
Resent Somebody
The moment you start to resent a person you become their slave.
They control your dreams, absorb your digestion, rob you of your peace of mind,
and goodwill and take away the pleasure of your work.
They ruin your spirituality and nullify your prayers.
You cannot take a vacation without them going along.
They destroy your freedom of mind and hound you where ever you go.
There is no way to escape the person you resent.
They are with you when you are awake.
They invade your privacy when you sleep.
They are close beside you when you eat, when you drive your car,
and when you are on the job.
You can never have efficiency or happiness.
They influence even the tone of your voice.
They require you to take medicine for your indigestion,
headaches and loss of energy.
They even steal your last moments of conciousness before you go to sleep,
so if you want to be a slave, harbor your resentments.

What a tremendous amount of power to be held over us! BUT, if we can find it in our heart to pray for them, it can release us from that bondage...I know it worked for me, when I prayed for my ex and his new woman!
That quote is an old one in at least two felowships and I like it as I get it too.
I love resentments they keep me cleaning out the garbage and moving forward.
