health problems

I understand that alcohol affects the liver, brain, kidneys.. and i know alot more but i gather it can also cause mild side affects such as gout.

My question is, would alcohol affect acne, spots? Lowering the bodies immune system maybe? i dont know.

Any advice would be appreciated

Welcome to SR!

And gee! I don;t know but you could check
with a doctor.

Personally...it was my brain that was the most
affected by my drinking. Scary!

Good to see a new member

I think drinking in excess harms your whole body in some way. But I am not a doctor. Like Carol said you can ask your doctor.

I think in a roundabout way by dehydrating your body and sucking minerals out of it, it could affect your skin.

But, I'm not a doctor.

I to will defer to a doctor, but in reading the books "Under The Influence" & "Beyond The Influence" thier scientific research indicates that alcohol effects every organ of the body and actually changes how every cell in our bodies function in one way or another. How it effects them I do not know, ask a doctor who knows alcoholism, most GPs are not that well versed on alcoholism, a prime example is one that suggest "Tapering off" to an alcoholic!!!!

Hi,

When I was out there drinking, my skin was very dry and subject to facial breakouts...Within a month of sobreity I noticed a change in that my skin was more radiant, lacked dryness, and I didn't have any facial breakouts...

I do believe drinking causes harm to every organ in the body...

Alcohol dehydrates you. Why would your skin be any exception to this? Moisturizing lotion would help to remedy this. That's my 2 cents since 10 Doctors will give you 10 different answers.

Alcohol does affect every organ in the body. Heavy drinkers and alcoholic have the usual maladies, besides things like bone marrow supression, alcoholic gastritis, imbalanced neurotransmitters in the brain, and an inability to clear any toxins from the body as the liver is so busy clearing the alcohol. I work in a medical field (didn't stop me from drinking though), so I see these things first hand, I just never thought they would apply to me, until I started feeling sick all the time. Part of that alcoholic thinking that "I am special and unique" I guess!
