Just to introduce myself...
Hi,
Just want to introduce myself... I am a 32-year old woman. Been married for two years and gave birth to my dear son 11 months ago.
I come from a family where alcoholism was present (my dad and his side of the family). I didn't drink much when I was younger (but the first time I did drink was at 16 and it ended up with a blackout!)... I started around 22 years old and I've had many blackouts since.
I am just growing tired of this and I Know that it will kill me if I keep doing this. I also don't want my son to experience what I did growing up...
I am not into the AA thing... at least not now (never say never eh!)... so I am glad I found this website.
I was able to not touch a single drop of alcohol while pregnant with my son... and I think it i sjust as important for him now than it was when I was pregnant with him.
I want to do it for me too... and for my husband who's been very patient with me...
Well... I guess that's my long introduction here! I'll start reading now :-)

Welcome, ForMe!
This is a wonderful place full of people who understand exactly what you are going thru. Many will be along shortly to share their ESH (experience, strength and hope) Many have found and maintained sobriety by working 12 step programs, others have stopped drinking and have found other ways to keep away from alcohol and to work on their "issues".
I look forward to learning more about you!

Hello ForMe! I'm a single parent in recovery with two beautiful children who attend AA meetings with me a few times a week. Sobriety has given us an amazing life together. But that's just what works for me, I know you'll find your own path in recovery.
Glad you've joined us!

Thanks for the nice messages... I am really starting to think that I might just be able to do this.
I drink for emotional reasons... it is usually not a physical need, but mostly an emotional need... I really hope I can make a good family life for my husband and my baby boy... they're very precious to me and I can't believe how lucky I am to have them in my life..

Hey ForMe,
Welcome. I am a mom of 2...ages 3 and 6. i understand and sympathize with your story. i want to do this too...for them, but i've realized that i won't succeed unless i start loving myself and doing it for me first and foremost. i had a 2 week period of sobriety recently and it was wonderful. then that alcoholic voice in me won and i gave in right around the new year. this site is wonderful and full of really caring people...it helped me in making it two weeks, and i hope to continue on and make it stick this time around.

Hi Forme & welcome! I am glad you are here. I am a mom of boys, and I was an "emotional" drinker also. I can relate to alot of what you are saying. Wine-not hit it on the head when she said that we have to love ourselves and put ourselves first in our recovery. It's hard, depending on the culture you live in, to break that "super-mom" cycle and take some "me" time, but it's worth it.
Hope to hear more from you.
