i don't think you've got that much to worry about... your liver is a pretty amazing organ, it has regenerating capacities provided the damage isn't too great. right before my dad died, his bilirubin actually started to go back down (his was at 9 or 13, something crazy) because his liver was starting to work again. for him, though, it was just too late, he was too sick, had too many other complications... your situation doesn't sound quite like that.

why don't you call your doctor, or a 24 hour nurse line? and, just for your peace of mind, get your bilirubin checked again after like, 30 days sober?

You need to ask your dr about the tests, Rob.

you know what? ignore my post, and read anna's. talk to your doctor, i have NO authority in the arena your question is in. i'm sorry that i pretended i did.

Rob - I am not a Dr. and I'm not dispensing medical advice, but I will offer this.
I've had elevated billirubin since high school, it's called Gilberts Syndrome. It's fairly common, up to 10% of the population and affects more males than females. Worst thing for me is fatigue when in times of stress.

Here's a pretty good link for info on Gilberts. Gilbert's syndrome - MayoClinic.com

Read through the info, ask your Dr. what he thinks and PM me if you have any questions.

Hi Rob...
Did your doctor tell you
to make another appointment?
Now you have a base line ..
..see where you are
after 3 months of abstinance.

Then you know what if anything
needs further attention.
