TOPIC: Speaker Meetings. 44 Yrs. Sober. ODAAT . Journey.
Hi Im Sharon And Im an Alcoholic.
By the grace of my HP and people
like you here in SR I havent found
it necessary to pick up a drink of
alcohol since 8-11-90.
For that and you I am truely
grateful.
Speaker meetings are GREAT....It
gives u a chance to listen to another
member share their recovery journey
of experiences strengths and hopes
with you.
Yesterday I was able to listen to
a long time member with 44 yrs of
many one days at a time collected
to get him where he is today.
It was someone who enter recovery
at the age of 30ish and has been
sober ever since....
A testimony on how well the program
of AA or NA works if u work it.
This gentlemen still has is life long
partner or wife along side of him....married
for many many yrs.....What an
inspiration....
As i listened to him share his story....he
spoke with geniune feelings....honesty....
hope....he made us laugh as he shared
jokes from time gone by,,,,,,
Such as,,,,a man at home has just
oured himself a glass of wine....he calls
his sponsor and tells him what he is about
to do.....the sponsor tells hims not to do
anything till he arrives....just dont drink
till i get there.....so the drunk is holding
on for dear life in hopes to follow what his
sponsor told him.....suddenly there is a tap
or nock at the door.....emmediately the
drunk enhales his glass of wine.....
So u see....the drunk did exactly what
his sponsor told him....haha....lol
Meaning becareful about telling others
what to do but instead use suggestions....
Anyway,,,,,
I entered AA at 30 and now im a few yrs
sober trudging the road of recovery living
life on lifes terms, continueing to incorporate
the 12 steps in my everyday affairs.....
Meetings will always be important to me
because it is where my family is....u r my
family....and where else can i find others that
know exactly how i feel with no questions
asked.....and where else can i have a place
to feel apart of....where else can i stay stay
sober and help another alcoholic achieve
sobriety....
Where else but with in the AA community.
Speaker meetings, Big Book Studies, 12 and 12
studies....Open discusion....closed....they are
all important in my recovery....
Thanks for letting me share....
And please feel free to comment or post
ur thoughts if u so desire.

I love your passion Sharon!
I love speaker meetings too!
We had clancy here not so long ago, a true inspiration. !
In my home group, we have a great group of wonderful men with very long time sobriety, 1 @ 44 years too!
They are strong and wise, and very protective of we women.
it is a very strong cohesive group, and my strength indeed
it is our groups 48th anniversary next week!

Of course, Speaker Meetings were my first introduction to AA...all the other types of meetings came later.
I used to love the local AA conventions, where everyone with 25+ years would march into the auditorium, and each one would share for a brief message of ESH. It was very inspiring. Unfortunately, I became ill just before I hit 25 years; so, I've never been able to take part in that meeting.
We had one member of my home group who had over 50 years of continuous sobriety...and, still going! Believe it or not, his name was Bill W.! Not The Bill W., but sober almost from the time AA started.
