Hello All- First I wanted to say thanks to everybody for the support and kind words, encouragement and advice. Who knew an on-line forum could be such a source of strength. Anyway, I took the meds again today as prescribed...they make my head a little "off" but nothing like the withdrawals I've gone through in the past. I guess this would be day 3 alcohol free but I'm not completely sure.....getting an appetite back....you should see the bruises and scratches and all the funny hairless circles on my chest where the monitors were I guess...I know thats not really funny, but I can't cry at work. WHat is funny is how when I got back to the hospital after my escape they locked my clothes up in a box and put me in the room all the way back rather than right next to the ambulance entrance...again, not funny, I know. I've decided to return to AA despite my MASSIVE misgivings....its really wounded pride and ego....I was such an ass at times there...a real loud mouth jerk...I might check some other programs out too. I really need to stay focused on one day at a time at this point....thinking is not my friend

HI Robo- glad you are back and sticking with it. Any recovery program is there to help you, so don't worry so much about how you "look" to them. AA isn't my choice, but it has worked for millions of people, so good to try first! Best of luck, and don't give up on yourself.

Hi Rob - it's so good to see you here with us - I've been to some pretty dark and frightening places in my drinking days, too, so you aren't alone.
I'm glad you're open minded about getting help despite your misgivings about AA. You're exactly right that thinking isn't your friend. Just keep doing the next right thing for your recovery (beginning with Don't Drink) - and things will begin to come together.
