Question Do you smoke when you drink?

I was just wondering if anyone here tended to chain-smoke when they drank and woke up with sore lungs or an achy chest the next morning.

Hey Need4 - Smoking is one (of the few) vices that I have managed to avoid entirely...so I can't help you there. Could the feeling be related to anxiety/tension/hangover? Just a thought...Hope you are well today...you are always in my prayers, J

Hi Need,

Didn't smoke but I started chewing tobacco and drinking at the same time, age 14, and didn't stop for 27 years. Then I quit both within two months of each other. Yes, the anxiety and stress was bad, and I don't recommend doing it cold turkey, but the results were worth the effort. I had no idea I'd feel such a drastic change in my body, it feels so good to be free from the nicotine too.

Be sure to check out the Nicotine/Smoking forum here at SR, and take a look around at www.whyquit.com That site gave me the kick in the butt I needed to stop.

Yeah I have always tended to smoke after a few drinks. Its a association. I never think about cigs when sober, but after a few drinks the craving starts. I never had achy chest, just sometimes a sore throat.

So another good reason to stick to being sober I guess. I can quit the cigs as well.

Quit smoking when I gave up drinking.
Yep...chain smoked like a steam train...Back then in my insanity I didn't give it a moments thought.

Now I think - you're smoking til your chest *hurts* ?
does that seem desirable to you N4C ?

I have on a few occasions, yeah. I'm not a regular smoker, though. Thank god.

Oh yes, absolutely. It was totally drinking related though. I don't even crave cigarettes when I'm not drinking. That's not saying much though because I drank for a very long time. However, I used to go to the bar and easily smoke a full pack in one evening. It disgusted me greatly. Good luck quitting.

I never touched a cigg unless I was drinking, and only smoked on occasion when I was drinking. For me hangovers were made worse when I smoking during one of my drinking sessions.

Yea, I usually smoke about 10 to 15 ciggys a day if I'm not drinking, but when I drank I'd easily go through a couple of packets during a drinking session.
