Not to be a downer, but quite honestly that video just solidified my impression of the cultish nature of AA.

Sorry you feel that way.

I didn't find it that way at all. I still use the program today to live my life, however, rarely attend a meeting. You see AA is designed, in my opinion, to teach us how to LIVE SOBER, out there in the REAL WORLD, and how to deal with REALITY instead of that false reality I lived in for so long.

To each their own opinion. I personally never found AA to be cultish. I listened for the similiarities, not the differences, felt SAFE in meetings in those early months, started to follow the suggestions of those that were LIVING SOBER in the real world and got on with the business of LIVING SOBER. That was over 26 years ago, and it was after the Drs in the ER had already written my TOD on the medical chart, so...........................I would say for this alkie AA did work.

I hope you have found something that if you work it, works for you.

I agree what GT said!

AA is not for everyone just like Al-Anon is not but I really was impressed with the video and Thank Laurie for posting it. I know there are a lot of people out there that do want to use AA or Al-Anon and this is a good video for them to see what to expect if they choose to do so.

SR is for everyone-and I believe this video will help those who turn to AA as their support-

I respect your thoughts on the program, although it's not really a cult. Think of it this way: with some cults, people who join end up killing themselves because that's what the group says to do. If you join AA it's very likely you WON'T end up killing yourself. Food for thought. I'm not arguing, merely offering another point of view.

I liked it, and I wonder if something like that exists in the states. If there is I have never seen it.

Thanks for posting the video Laurie.

It doesn't look right for me, not really my cup of tea at all by the looks of things but I know it does help a lot of people, so it can only be a good thing - if that makes any sense?

Not sure about all this higher power side of things either.
