I dont know what to do

Hi my name is Michael. I am a recovering alcoholic since 06-01-07. I am still struggling with gambling and pot. I cant quit, slow down, cut back, these two. I feel like I am at my wits end. My emotions are all over the place. I want to live totally sober and be successful. I am so scared right now. I just dont know what to do, where to go or who to talk to.

hi Michael -

Welcome to SR....first - most important - You're not alone.

Not any more.

There's stickies on the tops of the different forums - say, the Alcoholism forum, the Substance abuse forum ... these stickies have tons of links and information depending on your interest, even down to finding a NA or AA meeting close to you.

We, are here almost all the time, 24/7,. keep each other comany and sober by posting. Feel free to read through the threads here, and in the AA and Substance Abuse forums ... and post to your heart's content.

If I can help any more - let me know!

Hello michael,

You can PM me if you wish....I've been there done that.

you can try NA and GA or continue to go to AA..if you hanv't done so.
well..a bit touch to convince the AA crowd..lol i met BW's friends
in casinos all de time.lol

you can google GA website and call to talk to someone on the hotline,
or call any hotline...don't be ashame many of use have been there.
You can ask GA to send you a package. or you can look at the graph
of gambling addiction..it's relatively the same as any other addictions.

it got so bad sometimes..i wanted to just write a $100.00 check to the casino
and not go..to get it over with.
so i wouln't loose $500.00.lol..you know that feeling ???

admmiting i have a problem was a very important step...

Hi Michael and welcome.

Sometimes when we stop one addiction, we do other things too much to fill the gap. If they are mind altering, then we are in terrible danger of picking up alcohol again. Smoking pot and gambling is not a good idea when you are tying to get sober. In fact smoking pot is not sobriety at all. It's just another way of escaping. If the sort of gambling you do makes your mind switch off then that is also just a gap filler/fantasy world substitute thing.

I had to get some help when I wanted to stop. I started with SR and I am so happy I found this place. The people here saved my life and sent me off to AA where I am learning how to live and feel again. It's amazingly good.

Hi Micheal!
I'm a recovering alcoholic and a compulsive gambler too
I hadn't gambled for a few years but now since I've been on the wagon I have so much spare time (I'm unemployed at the moment) that I've occasionally been gambling again. I've got to quit that too.
Anyway, welcome aboard. I'm sure you'll find some good advice on here.
Take care.

Hi Michael, and welcome.

I switched from booze to pills in early recovery. I do understand, as do others here.

Please keep posting.
