this is such a good topic for me. I struggle with this issue. I long for a good close friend. I had 2. My wife and my best bud. Well my buddy and I were drinking buddies.... and well I don't call him 3-4 times a week to go out anymore and he doesn't call me to go out drinking anymore. We barely talk and are really drifting apart as we have not much in common anymore.

So it is just me and my wife. I really wish I had another good friend that I had something in common with.

ok so the short answer

not counting my spouse...

maybe 1 close friend

1 other friend

a few people I associate with.

My family are my bestest friends. They're constant and continue to like me no matter what. I give them the same in return.

A 2006 study in the American Sociological Review found that Americans on average had only two close friends to confide to, down from an average of three in 1985. The percentage of people who noted having no such confidant rose from 10 percent to almost 25 percent; and 19 additional percent said they had only a single confidant - often their spouse, raising the risk of serious loneliness in case the relationship ended

Actually for me Aldo, i didn't have any friends when i drank. Especially the last year. The only people I seen was my husband and family on special occasions.

Now since I've been in AA I'm starting to get friends again and a lot of new acquaintances that will become friends. i look forward to seeing them everyday and telling them how my day has been. Some of my friends were my friends from years ago when i was in AA the first time in the 90's and I had almost 2 years of sobriety. I'm so grateful that their still there and able to help me again.
