Hi! How are you all doing today?
I'm having a bad day today. Last night my neighbours were making disturbing noises (they were f*****g like wild animals) untill 2am. I got really anxious because thier antics have now become a daily event - and I can hear EVERYTHING. it's disgusting.
So I wanted to take a benzo (untill a few months ago I used to abuse benzos allot) because I was so stressed but my friend Calfritch reminded me that I shouldn't rely (sp?) on medications. I was very tempted so before I went to bed I threw my last remaining benzos down the toilet. I don't really need them. I'd been keeping thoese ones for months "just in case". So I'd like to say a big thank you to calfritch!
I was so anxious I slept very bad last night. I was dreaming all night and I kept waking up very often.
This morning at 6.30 my neighbours were at it again. So I got up and wanted to go out just out of desperation. But my car wouldn't start. So I went back to bed. Shortly after my neighbours went off to work and I slept till 2pm.
How are you all today then?

Wow aldo,
Nothing seems to have changed in the neighbor situation.
I am sorry my friend.
I hope the rest of the day goes better!

Sorry you had a bad night Aldo.

Way to go on throwing out the benzos. They are little devil pills.

Hope your day is better.

Oh! It's here - the original thread was locked.

Well, not drinking today (day 4) and cooking a rather fine meal with fresh produce.

Sorry to hear about your problem Aldo. It must be awful. Can you reason with them in a gentle way?

I suppose I could. Fundamentally their's nice/good people. But I can't just go and knock on their door and ask them to do it a bit more quietly!
And anyway, a couple of months ago my guitar playing was disturbing them and they didn't talk to me about it, they just went directly to the landlord.

Not drinking today (Day 5) - feeling a bit weak and unfocused but otherwise OK.

Aldo - have you tried earplugs? I used them years ago when I lived next door to a semi-deaf clown with a 2000 watt stereo, and they worked well.

Not drinking today (day 6)

Not doing much - I think I'm losing weight - maybe it's because I'm not getting a 1000 calories a day in booze (lol).

Winter is grim in the UK. It's never cold enough to be fun with snow and skiing - but always uncomfortably cold damp and dark.

What you up to aldo?

Ugggh. I love winter once the snow starts falling. Right now its been hovering just above freezing so we are all just waiting for the temps to drop a bit and everything to get white. Flurried a bit the other day though, was nice.

It's cold and miserable in my part of the world at the moment.
5°c in the daytimes and as cold as -5°c at night
I'm already looking forward to my next vacation in january and then it will be nice when spring comes and the tempreatures will get a bit warmer and the days a bit longer.
It's also kind of depressing at the moment, when it's cold, because their aren't many people about. But it will all pass.

Not boozing today (day 7).

Done a week but not really that pleased.

I drank every day for 3 years before I recently started quitting, and a week is certainly the longest I have gone without booze for 10 years, at least.

I know I don't enjoy drinking and that I used to drink because: -

1. I was self-medicating (anaesthetic) for some unresolved pain.
2. Being deliberately self-destructive.
3. Addicted to booze simply because of drinking so much.

I'm going through the tough business now of my mind trying to convince me that drinking is good for me and makes life fun, and that I'm silly pretending to be an alcky.

Anyway, hiya Aldo and Thentram - the rest of the crew that were in this thread seem to have gone - I hope they are not all rolling about in the gutter drunk.

I never understood #2, but it was definitely a factor for me. For some reason the idea of self-destruction is strangely appealing at times... even though it really makes no sense. #3 is a vicious cycle, really not easy to break out of it.

Day 39 for me. Had a bit of temptation the other night but I think it was because I forgot to eat and hunger is a trigger for me. Am really looking forward to Thanksgiving and the long weekend.

Hope everyone else is enjoying their week.

Yea, where has everybody gone?? Who ever's reading don't be shy to say hello!
I've had a bad day today. I'm been gambling. I'm going to go and look for a gambling forum now in a moment. I've got to quit that too.

Hunger is indeed a trigger. If you think of the word HEAT you should be able to remember the 4 triggers. H is hunger. T is tiredness. But I can't remember what the E and the A are for.

I'm into my second week (8 days). It is starting to feel normal not being drunk.

I think my body is adjusting - living off 7000 calories a week in booze (and not that much food) must have messed up insulin production, blood sugar levels, liver function etc. I think I can feel myself mending - sort of like after a car crash.

Had a bad moment in the supermarket today. The closer I got to the booze section, the more my mouth was watering and I was slavering like a dog when I had to go through it to get to the sweets.

It's sick in the UK - the law is, you can buy booze 24/7 every single day of the year - so I can't do my shopping when the booze section is closed because it is never closed.

The same happened to me a few weeks ago. I was lingering around the booze section for a good 5 to 10 mins. It needed a llot of will power to walk away.
That was probably one of the worst moments of my recovery so far.
I'm pleased to hear you're doing well and congratulations on your 8th Day, that's very good. Keep on going strong!
Have a nice evening.

On day 9 - hi Aldo.

Woke up with seemed like a bad hangover - would normally have had some drink to feel 'better'. Was right on the ragged edge of will-power but managed to stay clean.

Hello - all ye Yankees with Thanksgiving. The newspapers say more than 38 million Americans go hungry, including nearly 14 million children. Seems a bit odd in the richest country on the planet.
