Hi
This is the first time I've been on a recovery site, so hello.
I've been sober now for 11 weeks. Monday will be 3 months - and that's a record for me having only got to 7 weeks in the past. I work really long hours so haven't been able to get to any meetings for support so thought I'd try this website instead. I've got a big party at the weekend & do not want to mess up at this stage in my recovery. I don't think I'll drink but it's already worrying me - Any advice?
Thanks

You probably know well enough how this thing can ambush you when you're not even thinking about it...if you're already worried this far ahead, isn't that a point for pause ?
just a thought
welcome anyway

Hi Fontain,
I agree with what Dee said. Even though I have been sober a long while, I really think over if I should go to a place or party where alcohol will be free flowing. :praying
You have a good sobriety going with three months on Monday! :comfort
Take care of yourself and keep away from Slippery Places for now.

Welcome to SR!
And I will also agree with what Dee and Rusty said!
Make sure that you feel you want to go....if you are having second thoughts DO NOT GO! If you do go please do as Rusty stated and "have an escape plan!"

Thanks for such a warm welcome and your replies. The party is a work do that I've organised so I have to attend. to meet & greet. Parties have been ok so far, as long as I'm with friends and feel 'safe' if that makes sense. 'm worried about feeling uncomfortable because they're collegues not friends - they'll be drinking & having fun. I'm scared I'll be boring, unrelaxed and won't be able to dance if I'm sober.
I thought I'd try and find someone else there who isn't drinking - but not sure how to do that subtly! If not, and I feel uncomfortable I'll just leave...food poisoning or something??

Hey Fontaine,
Make sure you bring your own vehicle so you can leave whenever the urge strikes. Do you have any sober friends that can attend with you as your guest?
Dancing sober takes some getting used to, but it's fun!

Welcome Fontaine, I too am faced with the same dilemma. I only have four days clean and sober, and there is a Christmas party that we attend at our friends house each year, and it has been on my mind. I am going to take the advise the others have given and not go. I also work long hours and again yesterday, I missed a meeting I intended to go.
Meetings are important for me, they keep me focused and committed to staying sober.
This forum is also a great place to check in daily. By typing and conveying the desire to stay sober, it helps keep you focused.
I'm grateful you are all here

Welcome Fontaine,
You have been given some good advice here.
A sober friend helps. An escape plan is essential.
Glad to meet you and good luck.
Use the party to celebrate your sober time and go dance your butt off!

Hello Fontaine and welcome.Just to repeat what others have been saying,i have a do coming up in a couple of weeks and i'm taking the car.The safeguards are in place and there is no way i'm going to drink. If you have doubts don't go,best wishes and congrats on the 11 weeks.
Also you might notice that there's a lot of others there that are sober. Something you may not have noticed in the past. In fact, I would bet that a couple will ask you if you're O.K. to drive at one point or another, having no idea whatsoever that you haven't been drinking at all. Drunks seem to take notice of other people that are drunk at the time. I don't know why, but it's possible that drunk people have a way of bringing attention to themselves. As far as dancing, I couldn't dance drunk. I just thought I could.
