New Member, Looking For Support

Hi all,

I'm new here. I'm 48 and have been drinking pretty heavily since my 20's.
I've been an every day drinker, but now I'm a binger. I can get 3-4 days sober, but once I take that first drink all bets are off. I also don't eat when I drink, which I'm sure isn't good.

I think I could use some face-to-face support so I think I'm ready to try AA.
If I can just get over my anxiety about going.

I'm on day two today, and have a queasy stomach and my palms are sweating. Nothing too bad, but I intend to get my liver function tested.

I've been reading a lot of the posts here, and they've helped immensly. Just to know I'm not alone and that there is a way out of this habit of mine which has gotten out of control.

I'd appreaciate any advice, and I look forward to getting to know the people here.
I know I won't drink today.

Thanks,

Ghost

Welcome to SR. I go to AA and it is really helping. Please keep posting. Oh, gatorade and honey are good for detox. Take Care!

Welcome. Your story sounds a lot like mine. Here is a great link on what to expect at an AA meeting, it is definately worth a read:

Hi Ghostlight, welcome to SR!

I started drinking at 14, and had a good run for 27 years until my life fell apart. It's never too late to stop, and you'll never have to do it alone with the help of AA.

I'm sure you'll find what works for you, and I look forward to reading more of your posts.

You aren't alone. I am exactly the same as you. No worries though, in time it will get better. Just don't drink today and, if possible, go to a meeting.

Happy days ahead!

a plan can help...

Every AA meeting I have been to has coffee. When I go to a new place I can feel a bit nervous. My plan is to find coffee then scope out a place to sit. Once I do that then I take it from there...

Hi Gohhst , my name is Leigh
I drank for 37 years, and was at times a daily drinker, and a binge drinker .

congrats on your 2 days
i have found that AA saved my life . like you , i was terrified of going, I crept into the room, and sat on the edge of the first chair i came to, and looked at the floor LOL

I was very surprised to find out that there were others exactly like ME! I thought I was unique , and that no one had ever felt like me !

Go to a meeting, you will be welcomed with open arms, and i think you will find great relief in the fellowship of AA

Good Luck

Thank you all for your quick and considerate thoughts.
It's great to know that others have felt/feel like I do.

I found a beginners AA meeting close by. It's this Thursday nigt. I plan on being there.

I feel a little better now. More stable. Hopefully, a good nights sleep and taking care of myself will make for a better tomorrow.
Not drinking today.

Thank you all again, it means a lot to me.

Ghost
