My boyfriend gets out of the halfway house December 21st! I'm so excited! However, my family doesn't like him. It's mostly because when they found out I was an addicit I was with him. Yea he has a background and I can see why they don't like him but I love him and if it wasn't for him I would be dead. Everyone deserves a second chance right? What do you do when you know what is best for you but you know people will do everything in their power to prevent your happieness?! PLEASE HELP!!!

you can't change how other people feel. maybe if he stays clean and gets his life back in order - over time, they will change their opinion?

i know my family is pretty protective that way. it's just how families are sometimes..

I agree with parentcovers-No one can change how anyone feels-and IMHO most familys and friends are protective especially when dealing with someone that has an addiction. It is tuff-try not to worry about what others think-and do what you feel is right for you-

Are you in recovery too like the boyfriend? If so focus on your recovery and try not to forget YOU!

Be glad that you have a family that cares about you even though your an addicit. Many don't.
