hello, new here but not to recovery
i'm almost an old-timer! haha! i have 9 years of sobriety, but i am here because i am facing a new challenge. i have chronic pain issues & am having to take medications that are not over the counter for the first time. nothing too serious yet, but i need a support system to help me through this change. thanks!

Welcome!
Congratulations on your sober years!
I do have chronic pain and I do take pain meds.
I take them as seldom as possible
I do not intend to change my sobriety date
as long as I am not abusing them.
If you are AA sober...as I am....you may get
flack from some members on this.
I don't let my doctor run my AA program
Nor my AA friends run my medical program.
Glad you are here...Please keep posting

Hi there Dani welcome to SR.
If it's support you're looking for you've come to the right place.
Was that a line in the Wizard of Oz? Anyway hope to see more postings and yes there are people here who have gone through the meds thing. Not me yet but
If you post it they will come...... wait a sec. something awfully familiar about that one too.
Good luck and we'll see you in the future.. OMG I'm that guy.

I had terrible pain before and after my back surgery. I was given plenty of painkillers. I was sober at the time, but I was not active in AA at all. Pretty much stuck in my recliner all day.
I did become addicted to them, eventually ran out and picked up booze again.
But, that was me. I know folks in the program on pain meds, and they are honest about it with their friends in the program, their doctors and so on and they are fine.
I also know folks in the program who have their meds administered by a family member or sponsor as they don't trust themselves with them.
This is something you need to decide for yourself but sometimes meds are necessary for some of us.
I am sure Carol or a friend will post the link to the AA pamphlet on this.
Good luck!

hi, thanks for your many responses!
i agree, this is up to me to decide in the end & i certainly do not intend to change my sobriety date as long as i take the meds as prescribed by a doc that i have been honest with & trust to understand.
