Sound Familiar To You?

A BETTER PRAYER

One man, too inebriated to drive, was walking home along railroad
tracks when his foot suddenly became stuck. He pulled and tugged, but
could not free it from the tracks.

Then he heard a noise and turned around to see an oncoming train. In a
panic, he prayed. "Dear God, please get my foot out of these tracks
and I'll stop drinking."

Nothing happened.

With the speeding train closer, he tried again. "Oh, Lord, get my foot
out of these tracks and I'll stop drinking AND I'll quit cheating on my wife!"

Still nothing, and now the train was just seconds away.

He tried one last time. "Lord, if you get my foot out of the tracks,
I'll quit drinking, cheating, AND ... I'll become a minister!"

Suddenly his foot shot out of the tracks and he dove out of the way of
the passing train. Dusting himself off, he looked toward Heaven and
said, "Never mind, Lord, I got it out myself."

This is a story from lifesupport.com There was more to it, but i had to post this for all of the blessings i took credit for. For all the blessings i disregarded. For all the blessings i forgot in due time as it was always convenient for me to drink again.

yes calfritch, i am promising myself a change. Honesty is so valuable. To look at yourself and realize that a change needs to be made. It may come simple to some people but it doesnt always for me but i think im headed in the right direction.

I remember when going through withdrawal, more than once I may add - promising god I'd never drink again if he saw me through it, if he helped me come out of it in one piece...

Then later on, a few days later I drank again, because (of course) I saw myself through withdrawal...

Fox hole prayers we have all made, I sure made a few over the years, but even though I kept turning my back on my HP he kept loving and forgiving me, he continues to do so today, today I keep him with me as best I can, I let him lead the way now and things are so much easier now. The path my HP puts in front of me may not always be the way I want to go, but where it leads me has always proven to be a good place.

I followed my path for so many years and found that my path led me to the gates of hell, I finally turned over the helm to someone with far more power then I ever dreamed of and today the gates of hell are no longer at the end of my path, I find inner peace and serenity is where I am led, and all I did was turned over the reins to someone who would not lead me astray.

That is me in a nut shell. When things are going good it is all because of me, but then when they are bad. I start looking around to blame. I am getting better though. Progress not perfection.
