Coke and Booze :( Help me!
My advise is to stick around for starters. Take advise from those who have succeeded. Find some mentors in your area and emulate them. If they have put drugs and alcohol behind them, do what they do. Remain positive and focus on the future.
hi Tom -
welcome to SR!
First and above all, medical supervision with detox is the standard around here.
Detox without a doctor's care can be a dangerous thing.
Get with your medical practicioner, and do what they say.
That's the best way to start. A Firm foundation and all that.
Congratulations on the decision to get sober!
Others will be along shortly to say hello - feel free to red the sticky's on top of the alcoholism and narctoics/drug addiction forums. There's TONS of information on this site.

hi again -
I think any diabetic or cancer patient ... would like to do the same.
This isn't about lack of will, or incentive, or motivation. It's not about strength of character or how 'good' or 'bad' a person we are.
It's about the inability to stop. And the inability to stop, even though we harm the self. The inability to stop even though we drive everyone around us ... away. It's about not being ABLE to not take that first drink, or the inability to walk past people we know are holding.
There's not a thing in the world weak about the understanding and admission that we are alcoholic, addicts ... or both. In fact it's quite the opposite.
The weakness ... is in the denial of it in the first place.
You're doing the right thing, and from your posts - you already know that.
And that's a good start.

Well, Tom, one thing I picked up in group the other night (I'm in intensive outpatient rehab), that I hadn't even thought of before..one of those things where it's like ..*ding* that was simple, but I never thought of it...is that if your drug(s) of choice (mine was/is alcohol) was a person, and that person kept pushing you around, making you do this and do that and all this other stuff that you wouldn't do when you were sober/clean..would you keep inviting them back into your life, your home, or would you tell them "I'm SICK of you pushing me around" ?
So, I don't know if it will help you any, but when I think of drinking now, I think of it as a bully that's going to make me not myself, push me around, and I get ticked at it and refuse to let it in the door.
Keep stickin to it man, I hope you kick them both out for good
