Hi there. Just wanted to introduce myself & looking for help/suggestions on how to go about finding a good, solid "sponsor" for my recovery.
I have just made the 3 month mark on my sobriety & am pretty much going alone at it.
I am attending meetings, recovery reading, journal, pray to my HP but I think someone with some experience to guide me along the way would probably be wise.
Many thanks & wishing you all a good 24.
Arian

Some groups have stronger sponsorship than others.

Find one that concentrates on the Primary Purpose of AA is my advice.

By the way...welcome to SR and congratulations on 3 months!

Are there Big Book Step Studies where you are?

in BBSS meetings a sponsor is pretty much a given.

Sponsor...... well for now it would not hurt to ask someone to be your "Temporary" sponsor. Kind of a commitment on each of you without a commitment. This would be someone who could help guide you to a good primary sponsor.... it could wind up being them.

What I look for in a sponsor:

1. A sponsor should have a sponsor.
2. A sponsor should have worked the steps and still be working them.
3. A sponsor should not only talk the talk, but walk the walk.
4. A sponsor should have what I am looking for. (Self confidence, serenity, in control of self, etc.)
5. A sponsor must be someone I feel I can trust with anything.
6. A sponsor should be honest.
7. A sponsor should be humble.
8. A sponsor should have some time sober. (This is one where length of time sober does not add up to good sobriety, there are some folks with 20 years sober who talk a good talk, but do not walk the walk, there are some folks, but not many with less then a year sober who have worked and are still working the steps that do walk the walk as well as talk the talk.)

There is nothing wrong with asking others in the program what type of sponsor some one else might be.

A "temporary" sponsor can help a great deal in getting through the first three steps, get a primary sponsor before starting on your 4th step. Don't be surprised if when going from a "Temporary" sponsor to a primary sponsor your primary sponsor suggests the 2 of you start off on step one again. No big deal really, step one is the only one that needs to be done perfectly in order to ensure long term sobriety.

thank you

Thank you to all for your great suggestions/help and the wonderful welcome! Yes, there are BB studies & that would no doubt be a good place to get more interaction/hear the input of others & learn how someone is "working it" for themselves... the things I strive for. Temp. sponsor is excellent idea ~ so will pursue that...all good beginnings & yes ~ I agree ~ Step 1 is our foundation. Thank you again!
Wishing you all a good 24!
I am thankful/grateful that you are all here!
Greetings to my fellow Canuk!

Hi and Welcome ...

Before you choose a sponsor ...pleae read
"Questions and Answers on Sponsorship"

It's the official AA guideline and is
usually on the free literature rack in meetings.

Blessings and Way To Go!
