I'm new, yet I'm old
Hi All...
My first post and hello.
After lurking for a couple of weeks, I've gained a lot of inspiration from reading the various threads of others. My alcoholism may not be as deep as others, but "it's" there.
My M.O.
I've relocated to a home office (8 months ago) and taken my group virtual (in the web business), although being in that realm, this is the first forum I've ever joined.
The problem... I can now drink unmonitored. My drugs of choice... (during the day) a bottle or two of wine supplemented by periodic hits of pot. I've been a functioning alcoholic for 25 years. No dui's, no embarrassments to family, but certainly ongoing physical harm (and lies) to myself.
Really hoping to now try and clean things up. I look forward to being involved in the community and moving forward.

Hi!
Welcome aboard! I'm new here myself (Day 6 today) but I can already tell you that you'll be in good company here. Everybody's so supportive and has such good advice to share. They're really great people here.
Let us know how you're doing.
Good luck.

Hi Norcalman,
Welcome to our recovery community. I understand your fear now that you can drink and use without being monitored by anyone. You were wise to recognize this. Please continue to read and post - others will be along to welcome you soon.

Hi....I am glad to see you de lurked!
Do you have a plan of action
to begin a healthier future?
Perhaps a medical check up to see
where you are physically and what needs
to be quickly treated?
Welcome to SR!

Thanks for the reply
Thanks so much for the responses.
Fortunately all alone this evening, so I can wash the sheets, make the bed and open another bottle of wine...all can appear normal when my wife and daughter return tonight at 10:00 pm.
Sunday will be a social and light consumption day.
Monday morning may be another story.

Thanks for the slap
Thanks Nogad and Skigirl...
I'm looking for a good slap in the face, and as I mentioned at the outset, I'm a newbie at posting.
Actually coming off replacing the pint of gin with wine. I've learned here that is called a "step-down". Sure, sure... good luck.
Best to you both.

I had no problems talking to anyone and everyone after 10,000 gallons of wine but it took some practice speaking up and asking for help when I stopped drinking.
Don't be too hard on yourself and check out the local prgrams.

Hey Max.J.-
I figure we are about at the same point. I was on another site, and today is my first here, but I need to do the sober thing again. I am trying to moderate, but it isn't so easy. I definitely agree that I need to go AF (alcohol free --- noticed you guys don't use that acronymn here---"AF") for at least a month before trying.
I made it 10 days last month, but I don't want to try again until Monday. Are you planning AF then? (No alcohol). I could use a buddy,...
Anyway, congrats for making this step and best of luck to you!!! :o)

AF? Is there any other way? I, as well as every other Alcoholic tried to moderate it. There is just no way. Quitting is so much easier than trying to control it.
Saying no that first drink is difficult. Saying no to the second drink is out of the question.
