New to this admission stuff

Hey All,
I'm new to this forum. I'm just looking for some support to quit this habit I can't seem to quit. I wasn't brought up drinking but started when I was in college (probably a typical scenario).
I teach at church, keep an active life (have actually run several marathons), and have a great family. BUT I can't quit drinking - mostly beer and usually on weekends, but during the week too. My wife drinks, but she is very disciplined and I would love to be able to control my consumption like she does. I'm more of a binge drinker - one is never enough, so do six or eight.
I know it is keeping me from being all that I can be. I would love to be able to drink in moderation, but I'm pretty sure I need to quit totally. My family totally abstains, but my wife's family, who I'm closest to, drink regularly.
I'm reaching out to you unknowns (at least for now). I hate feeling weak. I hate being mastered by anything or anyone. I need help.
I'm not sure how often I'll make it to the forum, 'cause I have three boys and they keep me busy...but I will get back eventually.
Thanks.

Welcome to SR, SoberMinded !

Your description of the differences between the way you drink adn the way those around you drink ... shows you've a good awareness or self going. That's a GOOD thing.

I'm sure others will be along shortly to welcome you soon!

Are you thinking about a plan of recovery, or do you have a plan yet?

Welcome !!!!

A couple of thoughts....

I would love to be able to control my consumption
We all would. That's why we're here, we can't. I can't, at least.

hate being mastered by anything or anyone
If you be alcoholic, it will become your master. And, it's not a very nice Boss.....
