This is sheer hell. Absolutely no idea what to do with myself, up and down one minute I'm fine the next minute not, retching like there is something at the back of my throat. Can't eat a thing.
If I can hold on till tomorrow I know I'll be able to stop but this is a nightmare.

If it gets real bad, you may wish to reconsider going to see a doc.
I know you've said you've been able to go a couple of weeks without drinking before, but detoxing on your own is potentially dangerous. Please be careful.

Can't add much more RK, but wanted to welcome you to SR. AA works for me too, I have a great life as a result of the program. I'm glad to hear you're going to a meeting.
Please seek medical attention with the detox if it gets worse. Try to remember that nobody's ever died from NOT taking another drink, but if you continue there are no guarantees. Recovery is a WE program, there's plenty of support available, you can do this too.

I'm new here guys/gals, here's a bit of background.
I'm 30 years old and an alcoholic. I've been drinking heavily for about 12 years and it has cost me everything; my long-term girlfriend, my place at university, several jobs, places I've been staying. You name it, I've probably lost it through drink at some point or other.
I have only came to terms with the fact that I am an alcoholic recently and I really want to do something about it now before it kills me. It scares me.
I can go a couple of weeks without a drink sometimes and feel like I am doing really well and then I think 'ah what the hell, 1 won't do any harm' and then it continues for days on end. Then when I don't get a drink I get anxious, pulse starts racing, sweats and panic attacks and the cycle begins anew.
Just can't face the initial detox stage and every time I do it (and stop for a couple days) I feel better and promise myself I'll not put myself through that hell again - but a week later I'm like 'what the hell, 1 wont hurt' again.
Anyway that's my story.

RK if you are physically alone right now that is a very bad idea, detox can kill even under medical supervision, the DT's can come on with little warning, these can and do kill and once they start there is no dailing 911 to get help for your self.
Are you watching your blood pressure and controlling it? If not you could have a fatal stroke or heart attack.
I am not trying to scare you, I am just praying that you have someone with you to call 911 if it is needed.

Keep trying RK. Don't give up. A relapse doesnt mean you can beat this. It just means that you were not destined to nail it this time. If you keep trying and I am sure you will be rewarded with lasting sobriety.

It's only recently it has become this much of a problem for me to do it, sometimes it's as bad as today other times I can get away with just feeling a bit hung-over. It is getting harder to deal with the panic attack side of things, I felt like shouting out this afternoon - but no idea who to or what for. Only a drink was able to remove that feeling, I sure hope tomorrow is better.

LOL we posted almost at the same time...
a doctor can help, hon. I think some of us think thyr'e gonna come running in with teh butterfly nets or something, but actually - doctors have a good bit of know - how and prescription meds that can help with the process.
they can also talk to ya aboutr a detox center if that's what you want to do.
