Alyce,

It sounds like you are really struggling.

Make a plan for yourself so that tomorrow is different than today. I had to make myself be doing different things at the times I would have been drinking. Breaking the patterns and routines helped a lot.

Hello Alyce i'm new on here as well and been sober for less than a week.I think alcohol can seem as though it helps when you are down, but in the long term it makes you more depressed.Coming on here definitely helps and keeps you focused,so make sure you keep reading and posting.

Welcome to SR sounds like you've been getting some prime advice over here.
That's why we come. I have three days sober and being here is part of the reason. The other is I want to quit. Nothing else I can say as I'm new as well. besides I'd sound like a broken record. These guy have about covered it. Be true to yourself and take it in strides

Hi all,

Didn't make it again yesterday, but today is a new day. At least I don't feel like sh*t this morning-and I got my work done yesterday. And I was spared the consequences of drinking. Do they ever catch up with us. I am so lucky that the husband has not noticed the depth of the problem, and I am given reprieves, but how long? Not many more, I bet, before I make some awful fool out of myself.

Rloomer, Dave, Ang-I consider you my "gang". Maybe we can do this together. Anna, you are our encouragement. I notice you post often, and I have to believe it is because the consequences of your drinking were horrific?

Thanks,
Alyce

The worst consequences of my drinking, was how I felt about myself and the daily shame. The consequences of my drinking were to alienate my husband and kids. I didn't lose my marriage or family, but it came close. I would say things I didn't mean and didn't remember and it's very hard for people to live with that. Luckily I didn't suffer in a material way.

I would try very hard to maintain the facade, as you are doing now and not let people know, but I was never good at doing that. I would lose control and fall into the downward spiral.

Alyce, what can you do differently today so that you don't drink?

well, uh oh.

didn't make it again yesterday, but the weekend is a good break for me-a chance to clear the decks, so to speak.

Octoman, Anna, and everyone else who has posted here-I hang on every word, thanks. You give me hope.

My philosophy: It's not a mistake if you learn from it.

Relapse can be part of recovery if you learn from it. Keep strong Alyce.

Reubena, Afraid2suceed,

Thank you for replying; how are you doing?

I didn't make it again yesterday, but you all keep giving me strength to keep trying. I have so much to lose (not that I haven't lost a lot already), but I don't really want to lose more (my husband, my work, the respect of people I know, the respect of my (grown kids).

Thanks for the support,
alyce

Hi Alyce,

Sending a big hug your way. Good for you for your tenacity to continue trying! That is something to be proud of. Keep us in the loop

I am doing surprisingly (to me) great! I have been sober for 9 & 1/2 days. It is nice not to be hungover in the morning. Actually, it is FABULOUS not to be hungover right now.

Sending encouraging thoughts your way,

R

Been there many, many times. Sometimes I couldn't see any light at the end of the tunnel at all. Thing is, the light is always at the end of the tunnel - you just got to get to the part of the tunnel where you can see it. It's not as far away as you think. Don't ever give up trying!!!

All the best, we're all routing for you!!!

alright, here is where it begins. The hard part-getting through the first 2 weeks.

I have planned a great day, and tomorrow, work is interesting, and easy. Anyone want to start with tomorrow as the first sober day? (Can't count today because I was up at 2 AM and hung out with a good book for 2 hours, and the last of a bottle of wine).

I don't really believe in the day count thing but I do believe in you all to help me straighten out my path here. I have done it before, and I really like this group who have shown up to help. I want to make note of each and every one of you.

Reubena, Afraid, Octoman, and all, thank you so much for the support,

Alyce

I know. Getting messed up just seems easier than staying clean or getting clean. Why is that? I have never been depressed before now.

Ohhh, not good but today I hope to have the stength and the sense to "do the next right thing". I am lucky in that I have many people who care, and a talent in this world, have not lost my health or my looks.

Why am I so willing to sacrifice it all for one lousy drink!!!! And that is all it is-I don't dare show that I am drunk again.

Thanks for being here everyone, Alyce
