Day 16- Remembering 9/11
hi everybody
today is day 16 for me, and i gotta tell ya im definatley in a different place then i was last year on this date. A friend of mine and his wife and little 2 yr old daughter were on one of the planes that hit the towers on 9/11 - last year i was already drinking at this time- This year, I shed my usual tears for them, and am handling it without alcohol.
what a concept, handling grief without alcohol. a new one for me! Come to think of it, any reason, excuse would have me saying "Yup, gonna have to tie one on today"-
i do not need to be drunk to remember my friend and his family. I can be perfectly sober and not retreat into my old selfish ways.
God Bless America and all the families
God Bless the soldiers bravely fighting in Iraq
and God Bless Peter,Sue and little Christine
hugs
maria

I am proud of you for being sober and God bless the soul of the ones you lost..

we can always celebrate the ones who are gone in a positive way..they deserve that we celebrate life and not destruction...
thks for setting an example..

Yes...the weather was pretty nasty and dismal here...so, it certainly didn't help the somber mood of all who were remembering that day six years ago.
There will be many times we may feel a drink is "called for"...but, at what cost? Congratulations for honoring the memories of those you lost...far better that you remember them sober than with a crying jag.
