and ... it's HOW you say it.
you know -
a dog only understands what you're saying ... by HOW you're saying it at first.
(I know I know - everyone here has humans in dog suits -
but for the most part, speaking as an ex trainer -
pretend for a moment I might know what I'm saying here)

honey I tended bar - everyone in TOWN knew I was a drunk.
I didn't hide the fact I was out of control.
So why would Ihide that I've quit?
here, in this town - tending bar is second only to being mayor.
everyone =- and i MEAN everyone - knows who you are.

I don't have any 'reputation' to keep up.
what I am - is because of the God of my understsanding working through the Program of Alcoholics Anonymous.
I don't hide any more.
but that's just ME.
and yeah - it's a hoot. I have a LOT of fun playing around with that stuff.
i was a really GOOD bartender. well. for a few years.

I have hugely strong feelings about this.
In my opinion, you do not need to share your alcoholism information with acquaintances. It's my experience that you need to know someone REALLY well before you share that you're an alcoholic. People have prejudices about alcoholics and it could adversely affect your life. Also, it's absolutely none of their business.
And, you never need to offer an explanation as to why you don't want an alcoholic drink, or any drink. A simple No, thanks is more than sufficient. If someone pushes me after I've said No, thanks, I just remain silent.

Yeah I'm with Anna and RZ....I'm not at all ashamed (not any more) but it's really not a thing anyone but close friends need to know, anymore than anyone in the street needs to know what's 'wrong' with my legs, y'know ?
