Question Help ~ In Search Of A Sponsor

Hello,

I am a 40 y.o. female who is a newcomer again. I had a 5 years of continous sobriety and recently relapsed. I am in an intensive outpatient program and they strongly suggest (require) that we have a sponsor.

With that being said, I travel for a living and I can't attend a lot of traditional live AA meetings. Therefore, I am looking for an online spornsor. I would prefer someone who is quite experienced and knowledgeable in and about AA. It would be nice if she is close to my age or older. She can live anywhere becuase, as I mentioned, I travel quite a bit. I am, however, available online anytime.

Any assistance anyone could offier would be greatly appreciated.

Grace & peace.

Welcome

Hi Serenity, glad to have you with us. I am still fairly new to AA myself so I can't sponser anyone. But please feel free to send me a private message any time. If you had 5 years of sobriety before, I'm sure you can do it again. Sending prayers your way...GH

serenity just an old drunks opinion, but maybe you could go to some local meetings in your area, explain your situation and see if there is a lady willing to sponsor you that could do it mainly via email or phone.

The reason I suggest this is being a sponsee and sponsor I can see where sponsorship could be handled via phone and email except I imagine it would be very hard to do a good 4th/5th step without a face to face meeting between sponsee and sponsor. Do not get me wrong, I am sure it can be done, but there is something about being spontaneous conversation during the 4th/5th step. I really do wish you all the best.

I want to welcome you and tell you that your post has a valid question and i think all of the above managed to give you a full answer..From people i met in the board, i learned there are different ways to recover and it's like a discovery of a personal path of what works for you...You will surely find it, as there is so much more to learn here, i know i did..

take care...

Hi, Serenity, and welcome to Sober Recovery. You list your "location" as Laguna, Niguel, California...so, I'm assuming this is your "hometown". Surely, there is a meeting you could use as your home group whenever you are "at home"...no matter how seldom that might be throughout the year. Before you leave the intensive outpatient program (if it is anything like those in New Jersey), they must introduce you to some AA meetings. Why not seek out a sponsor...even a temporary one...before you resume your business travels. At least you will have started a foundation for continued sobriety.

The fact that you travel for a living shouldn't prevent you from attending AA meetings...I'm sure you're aware from your previous five-year experience with AA that there are meetings all over the USA, and worldwide. You might even be able to hook-up with folks through Sober Recovery in places you'll be doing business. Wouldn't that be a hoot!?! (I wouldn't be a bit surprised if there are even meetings in airports and hotels all over the world...check it out through the local AA hot-lines.)

I'm a 75-year-old mother, grandmother, great grandmother with almost 28 years of continuous sobriety. I would certainly be agreeable to be an on-line "friend" and offer you the benefit of whatever experience, strength and hope you may need from time to time. Please feel free to IM me whenever you like.
